Publisher's summary
Most children go through a dinosaur phase. Learning all the tongue-twisting names, picking favourites based on ferocity, armour, or sheer size. For many kids this love of ‘terrible lizards’ fizzles out at some point between starting and leaving primary school. All those fancy names slowly forgotten, no longer any need for a favourite.
For all those child dino fanatics who didn’t grow up to become paleontologists, dinosaurs seem like something out of mythology. They are dragons, pictures in books, abstract, other, extinct.
They are at the same time familiar and mysterious. And yet we’re in an age of rapid discovery - new dinosaur species and genera are being discovered at an accelerating rate, we’re learning more about what they looked like, how they lived, how they evolved and where they all went.
This series isn’t just a top trumps list of dino facts - we’re interested in the why and the how and like all areas of science there is plenty of controversy and debate.

Did you know that most of our dinosaur fossils were discovered because two grown men absolutely hated each other? It’s true! Rivals! Frenemies Who Changed the World is a riotous audio exclusive, like if Monty Python taught your history class. Each volume of four 30-minute histories will dig into the petty name-calling and grumbling grudges that led to many of the world’s greatest advancements, all delivered with a cheeky sense of humor. Choose sides: Cope or Marsh, the jerks who discovered so many dinosaurs; Hamilton or Burr, whose rivalry fueled American politics; and many more....

Her family was issued an insane ransom demand: $25 million in cash and jewels, payable by the end of the school day, otherwise they’ll never see her again. Without John C. Houbolt, a mid-level engineer at NASA, Apollo 11 would never have made it to the moon. Top NASA engineers on the project, including Werner Von Braun, strongly advocated for a single, huge spacecraft to travel to the moon, land, and return to Earth. It's the scenario used in 1950s cartoons and horror movies about traveling to outer space. Houbolt had another idea: Lunar Orbit Rendezvous. LOR would link two spacecraft in orbit while the crafts were travelling at 3,600 miles an hour around the moon. His plan was ridiculed and considered unthinkable.

Story
The tide is turning against the colonists in the Revolutionary War, and 18-year-old Elizabeth Morris cannot sit by idly. Quietly disdainful of her Tory parents, who drag her along to society events and welcome a British soldier into their home during their occupation of New York City, Elizabeth decides to take matters into her own hands. She realizes that, as a young woman, no one around her believes that she can comprehend the profound implications of being a nation at war - she is, effectively, invisible. And she can use this invisibility to her advantage.

Science fiction allows us to go places we can only dream of seeing - other worlds, distant stars, entirely different galaxies. While not every story is concerned with the hard science behind space travel and other futuristic ventures, fiction can give us amazing insight into what we could be capable of and what we dream of doing. In these 10 lectures, Professor Erin Macdonald interweaves real science and the achievements of the imagination to reveal the truth that underlies our favorite stories and sheds light on what the future may hold.

In the vast Alaskan Arctic, legend has it there once lived a mythic tribe—Iñukuns—that only existed in rumors and whispers. This changed forever when an actor-turned-fugitive, Teddy Kyle Smith, had an encounter that brought Iñukuns from myth to reality. Smith was an aspiring actor with a promising career until it all came quickly crashing down with a gunshot, a manhunt, bloodshed, and other frightful events.

Concerned that technology is about to chase mythological creatures out into the open (how long can Sasquatch stay hidden from Google maps?), the League for Interspecies Cooperation is sending Jillian to Louisiana on a fact-finding mission. While the League hopes to hold on to secrecy for a little bit longer, they're preparing for the worst in terms of human reactions. They need a plan, so they look to Mystic Bayou, a tiny town hidden in the swamp where humans and supernatural residents have been living in harmony for generations.

Great for Grown-Up Dinosaur Fans
A Grown-Up Guide to Dinosaurs is an Audible Original treat for adult dinosaur fans and older kids, too. I was surprised at how much is still being discovered about dinosaurs and their demise. I’m definitely not a scientist, but I loved hearing about the process used by and discoveries made by modern paleontologists. The story ended with an ecological warning for everyone in 2019. Definitely a good listen!

Excellent Listen
This is an excellent listen. Concise and educational, this is a mix of text and interviews of paleontologists around the world that presents the current thinking about the age of dinosaurs, their evolution, rise and fall. The development of modern dinosaurs- birds - and the massive asteroid strike that led to the loss of most dinosaurs are part of the discussion. Very well done.

Absolutely fantastic exploration of prehistoric life
Ben Garrod has stitched together a wonderful story of how dinosaurs came to be, thrived, and died out in this really entertaining audiobook. He has a clever and engaging way of introducing new subject matter, exploring it as deeply as a layman could manage, and segue into a new topic without missing a beat. I highly, highly recommend this book for anyone with an even passing interest in dinosaurs and science.

Better than I anticipated! More like this, please!
I had low expectations going in, so I was pleasantly by surprised how perfect this was. It has enough technical detail to be interesting but never boring. I'm also very impressed that Mr. Garrod narrated the piece himself--if his career as a scientist doesn't work out, he can definitely have a career in audio journalism. I guess that is why he is a professor of Professor of Evolutionary Biology and Science Engagement--who knew there was such a thing?
I have not thought about dinosaurs since I left school, and I feel like this Audible Original got me up to speed on the latest science and helped me to feel more connected to planet Earth. Bravo!

Dino’s aren’t just for kids
Just like the into of this audiobook, I had given away my love of dinosaurs for seemingly more mature choice as I grew up. Now with a 4 year old son whose alter ego is a T-Rex I thought this would be a fun listen for both of us. My son wasn’t quite as enthusiastic, but I loved learning so much about dinosaurs of yesterday and today. Thanks for bringing these animals back to life for me.
