True Tales From the Cast

About the Host

Tan France has been a successful fashion designer for more than 15 years, and is best known to audiences worldwide as the fashion expert on the Emmy-winning Netflix reboot, Queer Eye. Amplifying the impact of the original Queer Eye for the Straight Guy series, the groundbreaking reboot unapologetically takes the world by storm and proves that the Queer Eye lens can be introspective, emotional, and most of all—necessary. Prior to Tan’s newfound success in front of the camera, he was the creative mind behind successful brands, including the popular ladies’ clothing lines Kingdom & State and Rachel Parcell, Inc. In 2019, Tan made his mark in the spoken-word format, narrating his memoir, Naturally Tan, and anchoring the Audible Original You Do You. Both audios bring to life experiences that contributed to his success and celebrate his identity…and the unique stories of others. He currently resides in Salt Lake City with his husband, Rob.

About the Host

Nikki Levy is the host and creator of the award-winning comedy event Don't Tell My Mother, a live show and podcast in which celebrities tell true stories they'd NEVER want their moms to hear. Nikki also serves as the Head of Scripted Comedy at DreamWorksTV where she makes television for kids and families. A native New Yorker, a Northwestern University alum (Go, Cats!,) and a boba fanatic, Nikki resides in Los Angeles with her wifey, their rescue pit bull, and tuxedo cat. Nikki’s mother knows everything!

Funny Collection of LGBTQ+ Stories

In celebration of Pride Month, "You Do You" is one of the Audible Originals made freely available to Audible members in June 2019. At just under 2 hours, this is a funny collection of a few standup skits by gay, lesbian, and transgender comedians/performers. It was refreshing to hear LGBTQIA persons share humorous events from their lives that weren't directly related to their "coming out story"; as important as those are, there is so much more to life! It was fun to hear some of these moments.

These stories are hosted by Tan France (one of the stars of Netflix's "Queer Eye" lifestyle improvement show) and Nikki Levy (comedian and cohost of last year's Audible Pride Month production, "The Path to Pride with Lance Bass and Nikki Levy", which I would also recommend). Levy shared a story in this set, but I don't think France did, so that's something to keep in mind if you get this. Nevertheless, they framed the different selections nicely and connected them to the common theme of owning your truth and staying loyal to who you really are, hence the phrase, 'you do you'.

I recommend this to anyone who wants to listen to ~2 hrs of funny pieces related to the LGBTQ+ experience. Some mature references, so maybe don't share with anyone you wouldn't take to a Rated R movie. Certain parts had me giggling at my office desk like an idiot, so the humor was a win for me on the comedy scale :D

Beautiful, funny and inspiring.

I laughed, cried and thought my way through this series of stories. I loved one so much I told it to my relatively conservative mother. It doesn't matter where you are on the spectrum - listen to this and love who you are. (And love the performers - they're awesome!)

LMAO!!

I haven't laughed this hard at an audible production in a long time. This was fantastic, and made my commute go by in a flash.

Funny and queer

Funny and uplifting, though brief, it was a series of gay standup comedy stories about coming into your gayness, very entertaining

My son and I loved this!

I just picked my son up from college and we listened to "You Do You" on our long drive home. He came out to me years ago, but just last year to his father, and to his grandparents just a few months ago. I thought it would be a fun listen for our drive and it was FABULOUS! We laughed hysterically and reconnected through the stories. Ironically, the theme was "Don't tell my mom" kind of coming out stories. Luckily we have always had an open, trusting relationship, but the stories reminded my son of how things can be in the LGBTQ community, especially when dealing with people OUTSIDE the community. The thing I liked was that it was a sampling of hilarious, touching, and inspiring stores from many different aspects of the LGBTQ community. I especially liked the last story. I don't want to ruin it for future listeners so all I'll say is that I loved the message to the core of my soul. Thanks to the producers for creating a memorable, laugh-till-we-cried hour and a half experience for us!
