About this listen

A remarkable vision for how Christians can live with countercultural gentleness in a perpetually angry, attacking, outraged time.

“Wow! What a great book!" (Max Lucado)

In a defensive and divided era, how can followers of Jesus reveal a better way of living, one that loves others as God loves us? How can Christians be the kind of people who are known, as Proverbs puts it, to "turn away wrath"? Scott Sauls' compelling new audiobook points the way by helping listeners:

  • Grow in affection for Christ, who answers our hostility with gentleness;
  • Nurture a renewed, softened heart in light of Christ's gentleness toward us;
  • And forsake us-against-them mentalities, putting down our swords, and permeating a hostile world with gentleness.

For those who long for a more civil way of being, A Gentle Answer provides an inspiring and transformative path for countercultural gentleness in our perpetually angry, attacking, outraged time.

Reflection questions are available in the audiobook companion PDF download.

“I can’t think of a more needed and timely book.” (Dr. Paul David Tripp, best-selling author of New Morning Mercies)

“Reminds us of the essential and needed attribute of gentleness in a world steeped in outrage and cancel culture.” (Dr. Bryan Loritts, author of The Dad Difference)

“An urgent book for our fractured times.” (Jen Pollock Michel, award-winning author of Surprised by Paradox)

As a Christian, this book clearly lays out why we have no reason to be part of the current vitriol, and that it is our duty to demonstrate patience and kindness regardless of the spite coming our way. Well worth the time.

An important book for a particularly acrimonious season

I've listened to 3 or 4 of his books... they're all great! They're so needful! I'm thankful to have listened to his message... thank you for sharing what God put on your heart!

Fantastic!

This book is not a weak Jesus book but instead very strong as it shows us how giving a gentle answer, in various ways, is following the ways of Jesus. In this confrontational world the author points out the value and importance of gentle answers instead of harsh ones. I’ve enjoyed it and been challenged by it.

No weakness here just a gentle way

I like the message the author has. As a Christian I know my imperfections can turn others away. Also others the same as I. The authors teachings are very enlightening 😇👍

Good author

As I listened to this book, I began to realize that I was making a serious mistake by thinking that this book would really help someone else. When in actuality, I have come to realize that Everytime,I have a conversation with someone or enter into a dialogue on Social media, I need the principles outlined in this book. And everything that is talked about here is backed up by scripture.

A Timely Book for our culture

Always interesting to read a book that uses worth loving since they can be claimed as the the worst of what could be. May good points in here as well, especially about the “reasons for the shift”. Not a bad book st all. It does however reinforce the very thinking it’s gently try to deter from, “us and them”.

This book had a profound impact on me. It exposed things that I need to change my life, and helped me interpret this cultural moment. I came away with a powerful conviction that the gentle answer modeled by Jesus is the true path of a disciple in an age of outrage.

Best book I’ve read this year.

Softly spoken with words of wisdom, and grace to live a life that brings peace and forgiveness to yourself and others! I will be listening to this again (and again)

Filled with wisdom

While being gentle should be a character trait of every Christian. There is a time and a place to brush it aside and muster up the courage to be painfully honest. Aren’t we suppose to worship God in spirit and TRUTH? I suppose you can say honest things in a gentle way, but oftentimes it is ignored or misconstrued.

They idealize gentleness

Did not resonate for me. Unspecific and repetitive, read for bible group, want my 5 hours back
