Publisher's Summary

Having experienced his first survival type Trial, Trent Embra is eager to explore what else the world has to offer.

There is only one problem. Not everyone comes away from a month of constant fighting untouched. Trent's friend Tersa is unhinged by her time in the Land of the Undying Lord, and Sergeant Cullen means to see her fixed. Enlisted to help, Trent is dragged toward another Trial, mostly willingly. Only time will tell if Tersa still has a place in the Guard and what the Infinite World has in store for Trent.

Felt incomplete

Great story but the lack of resolution really makes things feel empty. I hope the next book has more of a proper ending or even a decent place to leave off prior to a cliff hanger but this ending was abrupt. Also the different view points from newly introduced characters makes no impact on the story as a whole. They just vanish. I truly wonder if my download was complete or if this was the whole thing.

it seems like the wrighter thought it would be alright to throw the mc around with no rule or reason nothing to learn and nothing but pity for the mc

Okay, not good, not great, just okay.

This book is good when it comes to plot how the MC progresses, but is a bit confusing at times. The problem I have with it is that the church writing is not good. It’s not so bad that I’m puking, but is enough to make me feel like stopping. When the writer refers to someone bleeding he says blood was spilled, like blood is a random new character and they just spilled. It’s something I feel would be easily fixed and it’s very annoying and hard to listen to.

Only get this book if you have nothing else to listen to and want a time passer that is mildly interesting.

Teresa needs to die

I really don’t know if I can continue to with this series, this character seems to have no other purpose other than to be stupid and annoying to an unbelievable level. I was hoping she got better in the second book but no!!!

Definitely a transition book

While I enjoyed this book immensely, it seems mostly to be about the characters transitioning to the new normal for them as a set up for the next book. As such, it also greatly expanded the world building, which is one of my favorite parts of book series like this. It introduced a few new characters, and I am very curious to see what is going to happen in the next book!

A story worth the read

Bless the apothecary for the good when I felt all hope was lost! You are going to need to read the book to understand be prepared for some crying, epic fights and for Trent to get screwed 😢 if you can deal with the heartbreaking part it a really good read

Book 1.5

Mirroring what other reviewers have said this really is a book 1.5.

The book is enjoyable; thus, the score of overall: 4, I would recommend waiting for the third book to be released on audible before purchasing. Most of the developments started in this entry are setting up events and introducing characters that will be important and interesting in future books. Not what you're listening to at the moment.

Please be warned Tersa is a bigger presence in this book. Personally, I think she's a pretty realistic depiction of a teenage girl. She, in fact, reminds me of someone I used to know, which means if you found her annoying in the first book. Be prepared for more of the same.

Lastly, Trent's, an idiot. Something **spoiler** will happen to him. You, the reader, will work out what to look at immediately, cough.... cough... Skill... abilities. Trent not so much...

Excellent second instalment.

Listened to the first book and loved it, the second was just as engaging. Narration brought the characters to life and storyline was fab. Trent, the main character seems a bit OP, but that is part of the storyline, so not as big of an issue as would normally be. Character development is also clever and entertaining. A must listen for the genre.

Engaging and amusing

Tim Campbell brings JT Wright's story and characters to life in an engaging and amusing fashion, with his narration and character voices. I've enjoyed the development of the characters and the introduction of new ones. I'll be starting book three straight away to follow Trent's journey

Good, but slightly annoying at times

As with other listeners, the whole event after the cloak was quite annoying when in regards to Trent. I think there could've been better ways to handle the situation or at least make the period shorter. Maybe then it wouldn't be so bad. Trent doesn't even come to the realisation himself and it just makes him seem so stupid, when he's normally quite collected.
While yes, I understand the bond comes into play and how events transpired at the time, that didn't make it any less of a pain to listen to.

Regardless, I still made it through and enjoyed the majority without complaint.

Looking forward to the next book.

A certain kind of tragic

I'm not going to lie, while this is a great book and series which I'll likely continue I got sad enough that I stopped listening for several months before finishing it, look forward to the next but God damn.

Awesome story. - 1 star for Tersa.

I love all the characters and the story is still amazingly good but Tersa is such an annoying story element. It makes no sense. No 12 year old should be allowed to be this dumb and silly. The joke, if it is a joke, is way too played out. I hope she forgets about Trent and never return to the story. She is delusional for no reason and the actual well written characters just accept the literally worst travel companion and likes even tho she continues to stab them in the face.

Should be book 1.5

I love the story and hope the series has at least 8 more books, but this was pretty lackluster, I'm left wanting so much more but without that satisfaction I got from the first book.

ok this series is actually well written

if studio Ghibli did lit RPG.

narrator gets the voices perfect.

story makes you want to turn the imaginary page.

not stat heavy and while the progression seems simple in book 1 book 2 diverges into interesting plot threads.

and at the end of the day if you don't like it, swap it for something you do.

A gripping tale, a powerful continuation, a heavy heart at its conclusion. Read on and enjoy.
