"[Narrator Imogen] Church capably meets the challenge of a diverse group of characters, embodying them and pivoting from one point of view to another from chapter to chapter. In doing so, she ensures that listeners remain fully immersed in the story" — AudioFile Magazine

Debut author Sarah Kozloff offers a breathtaking and cinematic epic fantasy of a ruler coming of age in A Queen in Hiding first in the quartet of The Nine Realms series.

Four books. Four months. Nine Realms.

Exiled and hunted, Cerulia, Princess of Weirandale, knows she has one destiny.

Her enemies failed to kill her, and no one harboring her is safe. Raised in obscurity, she has no resources, no army, nothing that can help her against her enemies.

Except their gods.

Critic reviews

“This is a solid beginning to an ambitious saga of magic, intrigue, and heroism.”—Booklist

“Kozloff sets a solid stage with glimpses into other characters and nations while keeping the book together with a clear, propulsive plot. A new series starts off with a bang.”—Kirkus

“This series opener is literary, ambitious, and epic in scope.”—Publishers Weekly

I like the story, but I think I would like it better without the narrator overdoing her part. She does have impressive voicing abilities, but so many of her characters sound whiny. Really, really whiny. Every once in awhile it’s appropriate for the situation, but there’s a lot of moments when the voice just doesn’t seem to match the moment. Hopefully she tones it down in the next books. I certainly couldn’t do half as well, so I shouldn’t complain.

Production overdone, pretty good story

Update: Love this series even more with the second listen through!!!
The writing style is brilliant, the words are SO good, I love how the author describes things! and Imogen Chiru is an excellent narrator! The ways she creates so many characters with her voice is excellent. SUCH A GOOD READ!

I am an avid audiobook listener. I feel either deeply grateful for a wonderful book, or deeply insulted by a horrible (or lazy) one. Similarly if the narration is grating to listen to it severely lacking - let me assure too that THIS series is WONDERFUL!

The Nine Realms Series is a brilliantly built story, so lovely that I couldn't stop listening! I listened to one book after the other, I couldn't stop!!
I finished the whole series in a week and two days!

I absolutely loved this series, and if you love excellent story telling, brilliant narration, and captivating worlds, this series is for you.

I especially loved the detailed world building that the author created, and by the end I felt enraptured by all the beautiful perspectives that culminated into a deep and fulfilling story.

A reviewer said the different perspectives were strange to get used to, but I think the various perspectives added a brilliant stroke of narration, and Imogen Church gives new voices that are easy to learn and catch on to. She is so incredibly talented!!
Hint: listen carefully for the city or region named and you'll know whose story you're following. Easy :)

I was also shocked during some parts of the story, saddened at several moments and joyous at many scenes. I have been utterly moved by this story
Note: this book deals with elements that are painful to hear, and I wouldn't recommend for young listeners.

I appreciate how the author didn't shy away from pain, nor sugarcoat the experiences of her characters, but neither does she over-narrate any element. She has written an excellent balance of realism into her fantastical world.

I'll definitely be keeping this whole series in my library to listen to again and again! I have been sharing it with my fellow book lovers; I've already got three friends listening to it!

I highly recommend this book, and the other three that follow - the story is well worth the listen.
Your book credits will be well spent!!!!!!

A Truly Magnificent Series

I really am enjoying this series. I almost didn't listen because of the bad reviews for the performance. please don't let that discourage you, it is an engaging story and the narrator does a wonderful production! The character they refer to is only a minor character in the beginning of the book and I didn't find it to be too slow anyway. it just felt like it was actually him talking. she does a great job acting everything out! the only thing I might suggest is to download a sample of the book on Kindle so you have access to the map. there are a lot of characters and lands, it helped me follow along better when I had a picture in my mind.

new series to enjoy!

Ms Church was superb: SO many voices. Speckles my favorite. Story is engaging too. Ms. Kozloff not afraid to "kill off" her characters.

Excellent narration

1.2 is the right speed for the narration. Really enjoyed the life and cleverness in this story, looking forward to the next book.
