Amazing story, well told.

This was NOT the book I expected. Not in the least. The characters are vibrant, and have wonderfully developed facets slowly draw forth in the telling of the story.

I highly recommend this book.

Slow to start but when it does.....

At first when I hit play it took about 2 or 3 chapters to figure out what was going on. Once the story picks up it pulls you in hard. I will be looking to get the next installment when my credit rolls in.

Real characters with real problems.

This book is exactly a route that Fantasy should be taking. Original story line with phenomenal world dynamics. As a DM bravo. MK I appreciate the representation you gave to everyone in every regard. Now I am going to binge this entire series, see you in the next comments section with the hot scoop.

Awesome Read

Amazing world, new magic and great prose. I didn't want to, but loved every moment.

Dark and arresting

The worldbuilding is intricate and fascinating (both magically and socially) and the characters are so alive. The drama is high but it suits the story and the narrators. Three cheers for the voice actor - she is perfect for the main characters and amazing at accents and the emotion that runs high through much of the story. I love the book track, it doesn’t distract at all from the narration and enhances the atmosphere.

Moisturize me!

Stone eaters are probably all thinking that. Good story, engaging and strangely tuned, thoroughly enjoyed and will continue on with series.

Great book, but why is there music???

I enjoyed The 5th Season. It’s a great story and the narrator was fantastic, but why is there background music? It detracts from the experience and pulls me out of the story to focus on the music. Please don’t do this to books. They aren’t movies.

Not for everyone but what I was looking for

If you are looking for a YA epic fantasy you’ve come to the wrong place. This is just what I was looking for: Mature characters,no teenage angst, mature love stories that are subtle and move the plot forward. Even when dealing with younger characters it’s told from an adult perspective. The book is slow as world building takes place along with the story telling and some chapters are written in 2nd person, Which is different/difficult to read/listen too. I enjoyed the background sound and music which really helped build suspense and added a depth to the narrator who I enjoyed listening to. I give 4 stars because the big “reveal” I figured out quite early in the book. I also recommend either downloading a print copy or buying a physical book because of the made up language and difficult names. I’m glad I gave the book a chance to get going and can’t wait to read the next one.

Deserves the praise

A rare book that deserves all the accolades it has received. Deep worldbuilding, complex characters, inspired narrative structure, and a a well earned sense of payoff make for a rewarding experience. Excellent narrator as well.
