A male version of Anita Blake.. as she is now 😑

I so wanted to love this book...hoped it would be a fresh new series for Laurell K Hamilton... it started with such potential but towards the middle to the end it started to sound like a copy of her latest Anita Blake book. The over explaining 🙄 of dialog between characters, the forgetfulness of power from the main character, bringing up stuff that was later not explained, the sheer foolishness of characters that are supposed to be law enforcement is too much like the foolery from her Vampire series! Returned...

I wanted to love this.

I love the background and the world building, but too many things were started and never finished or explained. *SPOILER ALERT*

For instance, what ever happened to returning the raccoon? Why was it never explained how the demon merged with the human? Who was the seraphim in Zaniel’s background?

I’m hoping that the next book is better because I’m a big LH fan and the series as so much potential!

Something Missing

I didn’t have particularly high expectations after reading some of the reviews, and in the end this was only sort of okay. I like the world that is being built, but it’s like seven different subplots were introduced that didn’t go anywhere. I recognize that some are maybe meant to carry over into the next book(s) in the series, but it got hard to keep track of what might be important and what was just filler. A lot of characters were introduced and, like the subplots, I don’t know who I should care about or expect to see again. Part of me is curious about what might happen next and another part of me isn’t sure it would be worth investing the time to find out.

It was a nice change

I really missed the good old days of crime solving with a dash of the paranormal. I liked the story of the detective and the angel/demon worlds. I found the detective an interesting character, he was different then the typical men she writes about.

This was for me a refreshing change, I look forward to the next one.

Inthralling

It is a glorious story like no other! Laurel K. has once more opened a door to another amazing world, and I’m excited to see where it leads from here. Come on, Detective Havelock!!!

LOVED IT

What a great new LKH book :) Not her usual bit I loved it very much. Zaniel Havelock is a great Character and I loved his world and Jolter Grahams reading was amazing. Great work everybody.
I can't wait for the next book.

Great Book, Horrible Narration

I knew going in what the premise of the book was. I am a die-hard LKH fan. I have every book she has ever written on my shelf. This new series was unexpected. It has a very heavy Christian bent that I was not expecting. I can see why some people are saying that it is like Anita Blake, but I can see Havoc as his own person. To me, he feels a lot more real than I expected. The narrator though...I have always liked Holter Graham. I have actually bought books because he was reading them. I don't know what happened. I'd recommend just reading it for yourself. He is nasal and annoying. I only listened to a very small portion of it before reading it for myself. If you can get past the narrator, I really enjoyed the book. I don't do the heavy Christian thing, I didn't expect that from LKH but I'm willing to hang in there to see where she's going with this. Havoc is an interesting guy and I have a lot of questions. I will definitely pick up the next book in the series. It's not salacious or R-rated, which I know has been a complaint about the Anita series. Just give it a shot. On paper or kindle. I'd avoid this train wreck of an audible version.

Different for sure....not what you expect from LKH . Was a interesting story but nothing overly new.

Love her work every time I pick up a book by her. More please. I anxiously await.
