Erin Sterling casts a delightful spell with a spine-tingling romance full of wishes, witches, and hexes gone wrong.

“A delightful and witty take on witchy mayhem.” — Popsugar

Nine years ago, Vivienne Jones nursed her broken heart like any young witch would: vodka, weepy music, bubble baths…and a curse on the horrible boyfriend. Sure, Vivi knows she shouldn’t use her magic this way, but with only an “orchard hayride” scented candle on hand, she isn’t worried it will cause him anything more than a bad hair day or two.

That is until Rhys Penhallow, descendent of the town’s ancestors, breaker of hearts, and annoyingly just as gorgeous as he always was, returns to Graves Glen, Georgia. What should be a quick trip to recharge the town’s ley lines and make an appearance at the annual fall festival turns disastrously wrong. With one calamity after another striking Rhys, Vivi realizes her silly little Ex Hex may not have been so harmless after all.

Suddenly, Graves Glen is under attack from murderous wind-up toys, a pissed off ghost, and a talking cat with some interesting things to say. Vivi and Rhys have to ignore their off the charts chemistry to work together to save the town and find a way to break the break-up curse before it’s too late.

  • A great read for spooky-season nights
  • A perfect addition to any Halloween reading list

The story is fun and light hearted with just enough spice to make you blush. I really enjoyed the story. It wasn't heavy or too time consuming, a good palette cleanser. However, the audio performance did it's best to ruin the fun. it's a testament to the story that I was able to enjoy the book through the sound of a weirdly uptight robot trying to learn human emotion. The tone used for Gwyn was reasonable, so clearly the performer knows how to talk like a normal person. The problem is that the book is heavy on Vivi and the narrator- both for some reason were portrayed as if they had never heard a person speak before. I just don't understand. There were syllables added to words for no reason and inflection in all the wrong places, and a very aggressively uptight, detached, apathetic tone to the whole thing.

Easy, fun book-ruined by audio

Story was ok. Narration was awful, weird inflections and all voices sounded the same. Overall I feel the characters were a little flat and the whole story dint really go anywhere

Spoiler Alert****

So this right away gave me BEWITCHED vibes with a little “action”. Great set up with the backstory, then a jump to about a decade ahead, so well done. I wish the narrator could have done a Welsh accent, I think it would have been slightly more entertaining. The story was well set and characters are perfectly balanced. Mean teachers and nice friends! Vivienne getting over a breakup with vodka and a bubble bath, classic. Relatable. Then the way the main character and her ex get flung together, because of the founders day festivities. And BAM It was sort of predictable at this point. Viv blames herself for the curse. He tags along to help, like a lost puppy. Connection is still there. Chemistry sparks, they kiss, then more. Wink wink!
Most magic stories are about early ancestors being betrayed and, of course, the one you least expect is the love of the main characters life. Which ultimately leads to it being the man’s lineage. Don’t get me wrong, this is such a fun and exciting book and it definitely has the October feel with the ghost and the haunted house. What I’m getting at is it feels repetitive, like the story has been told before, minus the love making. So it’s hard to say if I like it or not. It gives you a girl power, feel good, love story way about it.

Cute and humorous

I read a lot of reviews before listening and was almost not about to listen because of the comments about the readers voice. However, i gave it a chance, and I'm glad I did because i absolutely loved it! It was a great little witchy romance, and I think it deserves 5 stars all around. I will say though, the voice for the main character does remind me of the lady in Legally Blonde who wants a hot dog real bad lmao.

love the book

I liked the story. I don’t know why women have such a knack for writing perfect male lovers, lol. Good to give young women an idea of what to look for. There were little things that made me happy, like choosing the outfit that made her feel good when she needed strength. Addition of witchcraft to heartbreak made the story much more interesting.
The narrator is a good reader, but only Gwen’s voice was on point. Vivian was too young and breathy, and the male voices typically forced with an absence of the necessary accents. It was not distracting, just mildly disappointing.
