At first, when Bax suddenly found himself transported from Earth to an organization of powerful, universe-spanning races, he was thoroughly confused. After he learned that his world was being forcefully inducted into something called the Retrogression System, which would introduce monsters to the Earth while eliminating all of the technology of the Humans living there, he understandably panicked.

Unfortunately, there was nothing that Bax or the Keeper Recruit program that he suddenly found himself being enrolled in could do about it. Instead, he was told that he had to learn how to be a Keeper, which was a powerful protector of the worlds included in the System in which the Earth was now a part. More than that, he was to become a Keeper Guide, a teacher of sorts for future Human Keepers once the Retrogression cycle began anew.

The only problem was that he had been transported from Earth while he was in the early stages of the flu he’d contracted from a co-worker. Bax’s experience being ravaged by the virus was unpleasant, to say the least, but he eventually recovered with enough rest. However, when he finally emerged from his room, ready to really start his learning as a Keeper Guide, he quickly discovered that the rest of the Cooperative seemed to be abandoned.

Now, what is a Keeper Guide recruit to do when there’s no one left to teach him?

This story contains an overpowered main character, LitRPG progression mechanics and stats, and isekai/portal fantasy elements. Contains no sexual content or harems.

Things happened that he couldn't control or change, but he still strived to make the most

It was a pretty good book. The overall feeling was great and it had some good life lesson insights.

Great Book

I have read most books by Jonathan Brooks, and I like all of them, but The Lone Keeper is one of his best. The book has a smart MC, the world building is intriguing, and unlike many other authors, Jonathan is not afraid to portray major tragedies in full detail in his books. It is also interesting to see his take on the emotional struggle of the MC when he is the unintentional reason for said tragedies. I will definitely continue reading the series and hope book 2 comes out soon.

A promising Start to a new series

I've been a fan of Jonathan Brooks' work for a long time. and this is another great start. The plot to make the MC OP is believable. and most of all I'm happy that the system allows for Class changes which is surprisingly rare in the Genre.
I'm looking forward to the next volume.

Plague Killer

I love that Bax got stronger, but I understand that he has a lot of guilt on how he got there. There is no changing the past and just do better in the future. I was saddened that because I his sickness that Earth and thousands of other worlds as gone and only one is left. The best part for me was the pick of his first class, you can’t beat time. I am sure Bax in relieved that his secret is out so he can have influence without hiding. I am excited about this series

Excellent First Entry

This is a fun first entry for a series. The writing is well-crafted and Miles’ performance is top-notch, as usual. I love most of it and I’m sticking with 5 stars across the board, although the introspection does pull things down at times. Overall it’s well balanced, the story is unique for an isekai litrpg. The MC is OP, but that’s why he makes the big bucks. Extra points for zero poorly-written romance or harem elements, also, extra points for leaving out humor that will soon be dated (kinda getting tired of the DCC imitations).

Super OP MC

With the name retrogression in the title, I was hoping for some time regression but no luck. We do get an accidentally overpowered MC. Despite his strength, he has to function in a unique mixed species world. This was a fun read and I look forward to more. The narration was well done.

Fun new series

I've read a ton of Johnathans story's and this one was a bit different. I do think it suffers from his normal triple questioning MCs tho. this book could have been so much better without a waxing and complaining MC. not saying the mc is bad, just a bit of a trope in both J's series and Litrpg in general. not everyone put in this circumstance will be clueless and self defeating. it's kinda driven me crazy every single mc he writes is this way. he could have landed on planet and decided he was going to do as he pleases. instead he just middles through like a morman cub scout that has a terrible ability to come up with a believable story. other than that I liked the story, the population pissed me off but I think that was a more well written aspect. their disregard that comes just short of racism towards humans was very well fleshed out. I think this challenge to the story is what kept me from dropping it. I'm hoping this cold indifference the rest of the galaxies people give to humans will harden our MC enough to start being smart

Interesting system and MC

I really enjoyed the MC and his ability to cope with the situation he finds himself in. Despite becoming OP, the system limitations imposed on him make him relatable. I really enjoyed the story and am looking forward to the next one.

A very interesting perspective on an isekai. Definitely a good book that I would absolutely recommend
