historical fantasy paranormal mixture

It took me a bit to get into the special gifts and the historical nature of the story. I did get with the program and enjoyed my journey of Piper and Julian along with the League with all its fascinating characters. Once I got on a roll, I could not stop. I went straight from Julian and Piper to Finn and Victoria then to the Duke. I fell in love with the group of extraordinary league members and the battalion of soldiers.

Kimberly M. Wetherell made an impact with this introduction to me and the audio narration world. I very much enjoyed her various inflections, pitches, tones, and variation in male and female. I felt her voice fit the genre.

League of Lords Series

The Lady Is Trouble League of Lords, Book 1 brings a intriguing premise to the story. I really enjoyed having a paranormal element aspect to a historical regency era novel. This is a complicated story and you need to pay attention from the beginning. As I restarted the audio a few times as I was confused and felt I was missing something. I love the supernatural magic swirling through the pages and the descriptive language used including the descriptions of the auras. Suspense mystery and a bit of spicey scenes.

Kimberly M. Wetherell did a marvelous performance of this audiobok. Her annunciations and clairvoyant voice bring the story to reality.

Narration awful

I wasn’t going too bother reviewing. It wasn’t terrible but it was a bit boring. Someone said the same thing about the next one. I sort of wanted to read Finn’s story but …. I just finished the story and can’t even remember the heroine’s name. They always called her scamp or something. Julian’s internal struggle over his love for the heroine but promise to stay away takes up the vast majority of the words and gets tiresome. The bit end is not at all scary and totally anticlimactic. Now the narration. I was totally stunned to read two reviews of the 2nd book that said Wetherell’s accent was “spot on”. I assumed she had asked her sister or mother to leave a review to combat the smart terrible review. Her English accent sounds like an 8 year old in a grade school play. It is so bad that it is laughable. I made it through the book trying to just ignore her accent but it is probably going to stop me from reading any more of these in the series. HER ACCENT IS AN ABOMINATION. If you can handle that and want something that is supposed to be exciting but isn’t, go for it. I wish I hadn’t wasted a credit.
