Slow as molasses

This is one of the slowest, most excruciatingly painful stories I've ever listened to. The author loves spending time on completely irrelevant details, even in the midst of what are supposed to be the big plot reveals.

For example, near the end when a character is speaking about a past event, the author goes out of her way to interrupt this story and write about how one of the listeners spills coffee and everyone is staring in shock. It just totally breaks the flow of what is supposed to be a very important and revelatory part of the story.

The characters can also sometimes be extremely stupid, which just adds to how painful this story is to listen to at times. It's hard to be engrossed in the story when you're too busy wondering why the character is the acting the way he is.

Overall, the story is interesting and the narration is great, but it just takes forever to get there.

Spellbinding and Heartbreaking

Steena Holmes is one of my new favorite authors! This book is beautifully written and narrated. It is a heartbreaking story but I was hooked from the beginning and I still have an hour to ago-I just can’t stop listening but couldn’t wait to write a review.

Overall very well done.

Narration was fantastic,
Bits of the story were a little confusing, I don't understand the interludes with the child, I thought it would lead somewhere. But it held my attention, and I kept going to know what happened.

Loved it, which took me a bit by surprise!

The more into the story I got, the more I loved it. I was worried how far they were going to twist things in the end, but all in all, I was happy with the ending too!

One small nit picky thing. Two narrators, each owning their own chapters. However, instead of using both narrators in chapters where they both speak, the main narrator for that chapter would speak for the other person. Minor irk, which is why I knocked 1 star off the performance. However, both narrators did a really good job emoting the story (besides that minor annoyance).

What a twist in life

Took awhile to get their but the character's had strong personalities, that would be plural. Death brings everyone to face the ugly truth

Intimate characters

This was a very enjoyable listen. The narrators were top notch in their delivery of Steena’s words.

Glad I listened

This book started off a little slow, but it kept my interest. Don’t get discouraged, it’s a good listen.

loved the story; dissatisfied wiith ending

First time for this author. Wonderful story until the absolute end. It just didn't wrap up several things for me. I don't want to spoil anything but had anyone considered DNA testing? Did the show go on? How was Marie so confident with really nothing new to her. I don't think David was sure. Why was Marie so afraid of her Dad? What about Charlie--was he made part of the family again? What happened to house?
