The war is in full swing. Following the unprecedented outcome of the siege at Fort Yimin, both the Republic and the Empire are forced to drastically reevaluate their plans for the conflict. With matters on the western front more or less settled for the moment, the warring nations turn their attention toward the eastern theatre. Winter looms on the horizon, threatening to deadlock the region and put a temporary halt to hostilities. With both sides planning to deploy bold and unconventional strategies on top of committing vast resources, it’s anyone’s guess which of them will come out on top.

Indeed, neither government is shying away from resorting to underhanded, questionable, or downright amoral means. The Gilded Hand has been stepping up their efforts to further Spymaster Edward Allen’s schemes. The Empire’s intelligence agency is also looking to field its most powerful enforcers in the coming battles. The Republic’s Foreign Intelligence Bureau is having a hard time keeping up, but they are not without their own dirty tricks. Rumors within the royal palace of the Horkensaft Kingdom to the east suggest that the dwarves and gnomes are on the verge of aiding the elven nation. Something that wouldn’t have been made possible without the Republic’s deep coffers, and the less-than-reputable individuals that fill them.

Boxxy T. Morningwood isn’t one of those shady contributors. If anything, it’s been steadily draining the government’s resources as it forces them to pay exorbitant fees to resolve issues that the monster itself creates. A trend it plans to keep following for as long as it can lie, cheat, and murder its way through life.

Which, barring something ridiculous like divine intervention, is poised to be a very long time indeed.

Great story and great humor.

I absolutely lost it when the demon lord in mocking valley girl imitation replied "yeah, well like, F YOU". Excellent story and amazing performance by Jeff and Annie.

Boxxy doing Boxxy things

Boxxy is as "charming" as ever. Happily proving that murder and mayhem are perfectly fine as long as you have a happy character like Boxxy doing it. We get more character time with Fizzy which was welcome and the cherry on top was the epilogue. Mimic's gotta mimic

Amazing work as always

If you liked the first 4 you'll love this one. Great performance by Jeff Hays and Soundbooth Theater.

A great book in one of the best books I’ve ever read...

I am just writing this now to get something down. In the immortal words of Wu Cheng-En, “Sometimes I enjoy listening to strange stories of angels and demons.“ (Look him up if you don’t know, philistine.) I think Iliev has done the old master proud.

shiny and tasty

this was a amazing continuation, the only disappointment was when it ended. there was a good build up and insight into possible things to come in future books. cant wait for the next one. i want it now.
few of my favorite narrators do an amazing job with this.

Purely Tastey

I swear if Neven ever switches publishers I will internally weap. I love reading the books but is truly a delight the way soundbooth theater brings boxy and the rest of the characters to life on a stage befitting to masters of chaos.

loved the end credits BTW a little tidbit of extra flare that should bring a smile to ELLC fans

Wonderfully wrong in every way

By far my favorite series Salvador’s world meets Robert A Wilson’s prose made manifest thru Adam’s improbability drive.

Amazing!

Another great book with amazing narration. If you have not read this series then you need to smack your head against a wall for missing out on this series.
