I have to say that this is one of the funniest books I’ve read in a long time.
I’d say that if you like The Princess Bride, then this book is for you.

This was a fun read, or listen rather, but I felt like the book was in need of some heavy editing. For the most part it's light hearted and fun, a sort of fantasy slice of life story about how a kid basically becomes an unstoppable god by sheer accident. About half way through a character that was a funny foil is suddenly revealed to be a villain, with no foreshadowing at his true nature and that threw me out of the story. Not to mention the dissonance between everything before that and the sudden evil man and his evil plan. Only for him to be dispatched soon afterwards and another villain to sprout up. The ending felt less like a conclusion to this story and more like a third party just said "don't want to get over 18 hours, so we'll stop here". With how this is written, it doesn't feel like a story with a concrete conclusion. I think this story could have been chopped and edited into to two, maybe three great books, but instead is just one solid lump of an alright story. It might sound like I'm hating on it, but I don't. I'm just disappointed by the fact that there's so much potential in the story but it falls too short of it.

Also the narration by Mare Trevathan is fantastic! Regardless of my issues with the book, I'd almost recommend listening to it just for her performances. I fear if that I read just the text, I might not have liked the book as much.

Fun but not fulfilling its potential

I got this book on a whim. but I have no regrets. it's an interesting take on the world of fantasy and the interactions of the denizens of those world's.

well paced with interested developements and plenty of world shaking tantrums. I laughed so hard at parts I was crying.

an unexpected joy

Let’s start by saying this book works. It’s as if Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman wrote a book about Dragon Ball’s Goku who was a jinchūriki like Naruto in a D20 fantasy setting. Don’t expect the protagonist to overcome difficulties plot challenges but enjoy following this munchkin as he nerfs his way through childhood.
The book feels like three stories in one and could use some foreshadowing to tie them together but is still a joy to read, or listen to in my case.
One doesn’t understand how essential a good narrator is until you’ve heard a bad one. Mare Trevathan does a great job and really hits the mark bringing the personalities to life.
PS. I’m a huge fan of Dragons. At first I didn’t like how human the ones in this book were depicted but once The story gets going everything fit and it was a treat seeing the unique point of view Dragons have.

This story is fun, well narrated, and a bit bizarre. I guess it's likely what is called a LitRPG now, it has that sort of anime, video game, mmo feel and it does it pretty well. In the very beginning I kinda thought the main character was going to be too obnoxious but he grows out of it fairly quickly and genuinely becomes a fun character.

All around excellent

Story lacking, but not missed. A good listen if you need a laugh. I recommend to anyone who wont take it seriously.

Funny, light listen.

The story was cute but this was a pre-teen book. Weird story a little disjointed but it was cute. The main character was over powered and no real plot other than a over powered kid raised by dragons. I would have given this book a solid three stars but thought it has enough fun moments I bumped it up. I love reading/listening to books multiple times but don't think I would listing this again.

YA book

For the first few chapters, I couldn't understand the tone or speed of the book, but once I gave it a shot I loved it. It's not about a single character struggling to gain power, but the hilarity that can arise once you stop worrying about an overpowered enemy waiting for the hero. From the singing skeletons to ghosts afraid of Zombies, I can say I haven't laughed this hard from a book in years!

This is a bit of an odd one as the main characters start off as kids around the age of 6-8. Their actions will have you bounce back and forth from that's totally expected kid shenanigans and no kid would say that. The story following these kids is written in a way that makes you think it's a kids story at first, then that adult moment will happen and you're left wondering what is the intended age for this story. There is a 10 year time skip about half way through that makes the teen characters a bit more enjoyable.

The story is decent but at times feels like it's written by 3 different people. One chapter will be dedicated to back story, the next on action, then the 3rd on pure comedy. They're never blended together as each section is all or nothing.

The narration was decent. She does a fantastic job with the kids and dragon voices. Some of the male voices are a bit rough on the ears.

I'd definitely recommend it for the comedy you occasionally get. Only future books in the series will say if the lore was worth it.
