Resumen del Editor

From New York Times bestselling author Bernard Cornwell, the first exciting adventure in the world-renowned Sharpe series, chronicling the rise of Richard Sharpe, a Private in His Majesty’s Army at the siege of Seringapatam.

“The greatest writer of historical adventures today.” —Washington Post

Richard Sharpe. Soldier, hero, rogue—the man you always want on your side. Born in poverty, he joined the army to escape jail and climbed the ranks by sheer brutal courage. He knows no other family than the regiment of the 95th Rifles, whose green jacket he proudly wears.

Descriptive and well performed

Really great, I admit I had to listen a number of times to get all the details I wanted, could not stop listening. I quickly sought out book #2.

Great book

If your familiar with Bernard Cornwells work, this book will not disappoint. I’ve listened to the Saxon Chronicles 1-13 (the last kingdom), the Warlord Chronicles and the few other of his books. Safe to say I’m a huge fan. I was a little disappointed when I finished the last kingdom, it took me a year and 3 months to get through all of them. I thought I had nothing else that would intrigue me as much as the last set of novels. Well, I was wrong. There’s around 23 volumes of the life of Sgt Richard Sharpe of the 33rd Battalion and I’m looks forward to the journey. Enjoy!!

Bernard Cornwell is a master story teller and Rupert Farley was born to read this tale!

felt like I was there

The characters seemed so real, i could just reach out and touch them. I truly enjoyed the action and intrigue of the story. I'm ready to read more.

Love Cornwell’s Sharpe Series!

The performance was phenomenal, and I’m excited to continue this series in this new, verbal light

I read the books many years ago, and now I am re-discovering what a great story this is through the audiobooks the performance was excellent probably the best performance acting I’ve heard in an audiobook

Exciting, superb writing

When reviewing a book in a different series by Cornwell I wrote that I don’t usually go for gory violent content, but in that book it was so exciting and so well done, that I withstood the horror of the violence. I’m certain that if I saw it in a film or TV program, I would have closed my eyes for certain parts of the story. The same is true for this book. Cornwell doesn’t prettify the violence of war, the violence of multiple cultures, the violence of soldiers, nor the treatment of privates by their officers. And yet, the story is so compelling, the characters so well developed and the writing so good, that it truly is a “page-turner” (even if there are not literal pages). In fact, I can’t imagine reading a physical book to be anywhere near as good as listening to this rendition of the book. I did speed it up when I first started (to 1.1), and then forgot all about the fact that I did that until I started my next book. At that speed, I found the narration superb, and highly recommend this book. I will definitely continue the Sharpe series (as I will continue the other series by Cornwell that I so far listened to two books). He is an amazing writer, I love historical fiction, and what serendipity that he turned to write novels because he couldn’t get a work visa when he moved to the US with his spouse. Just think how much talent would have been untapped, had he received a visa.

Realistic Solider

You'll get no fancy hero and no tales of feets above what a human can accomplish. What you get is a solider in 1799 who has to do his best in a shit situation, and that in itself is an excellent story.

the reader enounciated everything perfectly and each person had a discriminative voice without taking away from the story!

Better than ever

Already listened to the Sharpie novels as read by Frederick Davison, and loved them. But Rupert Farley delivers such an awesome narration, it’s like hearing the stories for the first time. Recommended, even if you’ve heard them before.
