From New York Times bestselling author Bernard Cornwell, now available in paperback—bestselling historical novelist Bernard Cornwell brings life to one of the most spectacular naval battles in history with SHARPE’S TRAFALGAR.

""The greatest writer of historical adventures today."" —Washington Post

Critically acclaimed, perennial New York Times bestselling author Bernard Cornwell (Agincourt, The Fort, the Saxon Tales) makes real history come alive in his breathtaking historical fiction. Praised as ""the direct heir to Patrick O'Brian"" (Agincourt, The Fort), Cornwell has brilliantly captured the fury, chaos, and excitement of battle as few writers have ever done—perhaps most vividly in his phenomenally popular novels following the illustrious military career of British Army officer Richard Sharpe during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Chronicling Sharpe's involvement in the famous Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, Sharpe's Trafalgar finds the young ensign captive on a French warship and in gravest peril on the eve of the one of the most spectacular naval confrontations in history. Perhaps the San Francisco Chronicle said it best: ""If only all history lessons could be as vibrant.""

It was fun to have Nelson introduced before Trafalgar. I wish the historical afterwords were included. The battle was even bloodier than I expected. A few more of Sharpe’s enemies were dispatched. IT appears he may become a father. We’ll see of his involvement with the countess continues. Now to join the rifles.

I love Sharpe! just a rolling good time. this book was a nice break from India, I'm excited for him to get to the rifles. My one quibble has to do with the narrators mispronunciation of a few words.
Calliope is a Greek word and has an extra syllable on the end. and the first time gunnell is pronounced. it is pronounced like gun whale. other than that, very minor point, this book was excellent

great story, great characters, 4.5/5 performance

This book transitions Richard Sharpe from India back to Britain by following his sea voyage. Sharpe begins on a transport ship which is captured by the French, then recaptured by the British and specially by a new friend of Sharpe. Sharpe then moves to the British man of war where he gets caught up in the Battle of Trafalgar. Enroute Sharpe meets and has an affair with the young wife of a pompous English aristocrat. This story is classic Richard Sharpe except on sea. There are riveting battle scenes, an odious English aristocrat, a beautiful woman, and some great salt of the earth soldier pals. Cornwell keeps the plot moving quickly and the adventure non-stop. These books aren’t deep, but they are extremely entertaining. My one quibble with the narrator was his constant mispronunciation of the one ship - Caliope. He pronounced it Kal-ee-ope when it is obviously supposed to be Kal-eye-oh-pee. It’s such an egregious error.

As a fan of the Horatio Hornblower series this felt like a satisfying crossover with that world. Sharpe is the perfect eyes through which to see the age of sail and his story is never lost among the drama of one of history’s greatest naval battles.

My favorite so far
