When a blood-soaked old man is spotted wandering through a sleepy fishing village in the far north of Scotland, his neighbours think he’s been in an accident.
That is, until he leads them to his home and to the mutilated remains of his late wife.
It is the first murder that the remote Highland village has ever seen. It will not be the last. Someone is targeting the elderly and vulnerable in their homes. Someone they know. Someone they trust.
Arriving to lead the manhunt, DCI Jack Logan finds a close-knit community closing ranks. Can Jack break down the wall of silence before more lives are lost? Or, in this twisted, sadistic killer, has Jack Logan finally met his match?
One for the Ages is the 16th book in the multimillion-selling DCI Jack Logan series from Scottish crime author JD Kirk.

The character development in these stories is so successful. JD Kirk (Barry Hutchison) started out with a handful of memorable characters in various roles in Police Scotland and I have grown to love them all, even the ones that are not so lovable. He respectfully and realistically has women and men in his stories that, remarkably, are so recognizable and endearing that you really want to know these people and be part of 'the team'. These stories have mystery, gore, sweetness, hate, love, anger, fear, everything. Most gratifying of all is the humor that is scattered throughout each story, and it's not just a giggle here and there. There are parts of these stories that have me laughing out loud and cause me to listen to them over and over. And the language - oh the language. SO irreverent and creative! This is laugh-out-loud stuff that ought not to be missed.
I hope I have deduced correctly that there will more DCI Logan books. In this last one, we have been introduced to a new drop dead gorgeous female character who is in the process of becoming an important detective on the team, as well as a continuing references to Bob Hoon's sister, Berta, and Jeff's unlikely sideline, stand up comedy, so it seems like we can look forward to storylines that include these wonderfully funny elements, as well as the possibility of DCI Logan and his love interest, Shona, starting a family. And then there's Dave Davidson, who appears to be in the beginnings of his own romance, and of course Ben Ford and his wild woman.
I can't say enough about these stories. They are wonderful in themselves, but I am convinced that by listening to Angus King's masterful narration I have been treated to an increase in enjoyment of them by 200%. Since I didn't grow up hearing a Scottish accent, it took me awhile to get it but now I got it, and it's very seldom that I am stumped by the language and I love it the more I hear it.
JD Kirk's Bob Hoon books were excellent too! I'm glad Robert Hoon is becoming a part of the Logan series, even though I thought the 4 stand alone books were outstanding. JD Kirk has managed to redeem a character who made a mistake in judgement at the beginning of the series and make him as loveable as Ben and Tyler.
I love these books. Barry, please make them last as long as you can. Tyler, Sinead, Ben, Hamza, Jack, and all the rest (even Mitchell) are too rich a combination to let go. And now we have Tyler and Sinead's twins to deal with, so I hope the adventure will continue.
It doesn't get any better than this
