Resumen del Editor

Learning with YOUR purpose in mind - not your parents', not your teacher's, not your school's...

Every day, your school, your teachers, and even your peers draw lines to measure and standardize intelligence. They decide what criteria make one person smart and another person stupid. They decide who will succeed and who will just get by. Perhaps you find yourself outside the norm, because you learn differently - but, unlike your classmates, you have no system in place that consistently supports your ability and desire to learn. Simply put, you are considered lazy and stupid. You are expected to fail.

Learning Outside the Lines is written by two such "academic failures" - that is, two academic failures who graduated from Brown University at the top of their class. Jonathan Mooney and David Cole teach you how to take control of your education and find true success - and they offer all the reasons why you should persevere. Witty, bold, and disarmingly honest, Learning Outside the Lines takes you on a journey toward personal empowerment and profound educational change, proving once again that rules sometimes need to be broken.

THANK YOU

As someone who got diagnosed in college as having a reading/processing disability let me tell you it's really frustrating that almost every book about learning disabilities are for parents of students with learning disabilities, and not people with learning disabilities themselves. I found this book so relatable. I am so glad these authors meet and decided to write this book. It's honestly one of my favorite books now. I also really appreciated how realistic their approach to college was. Too many writers present an idealized plan of a picture perfect student who has no social life or does anything outside of school. That is a sure fired way to make sure you never go anywhere in life, EVER. I will definitely be recommending this to other people.

There's Something for Everyone

I rarely ever write reviews for books, but I have been hooked on listening to this book for several days in a row (I've been listening in spurts here and there- it's the only thing that has held my attention for more than half an hour lately). I was recently diagnosed with ADHD as a college student, but my difficulty with focusing is something I've been struggling with for years now. I love reading, but getting through non-fiction books these days has been a challenge. The way the narrator talks is very engaging. The book itself is full of helpful tips and tricks that everyone could find some use for, but specifically people with learning disabilities or focusing issues. Listening to this book has given me a new lease on life and has given me back the hope I'd lost thinking my brain was going to keep me from achieving my academic goals. I highly recommend this book!

45 minutes of audio. Still not a word to help me.

I got this book as part of my research into different learning techniques as I decide if I should return to higher education. after 45 minutes I am still listening to the authors childhood experiences with the co-authors sure to follow. I understand the need to demonstrate the similarities and connect with the reader, I feel like this is the script for a bad movie - all character background with just a few minutes of actual plot.
