Reseñas de la Crítica

“Sally Shaywitz is an amazing woman, and no one has a better understanding of dyslexia and how it affects young children. Her work in this field is unmatched. One in five children of all classes, genders, and races have dyslexia, and it must be recognized early. These children think fast but read slow, through no fault of their own. Some of them are brilliant, but their brilliance often goes unrecognized. Sally’s tireless advocacy for those who have this learning disability has to be an inspiration for anyone who values early learning, systems of intelligence, and how to combat the many false perceptions of dyslexia. Her constant fight to change public policy as it relates to the way dyslexia functions and is understood in the nation’s schools should be deeply meaningful to anyone who cares about children in today’s world.” —Bob Dylan

“In this gem of a book, Dr. Sally Shaywitz uses her voice, her images, her brain–and yes, her heart–to shine a piercing and clarifying light on what we so inadequately call ‘dyslexia.’ What is more, she shows how almost everyone can overcome it.” —Daniel D. Federman, M.D.,

“Fascinating. . . . Shaywitz has illuminated the inner workings of dyslexic minds.” —Time

“An important book.... For the first time, scientists are understanding how the brain works...in the act of reading. Front and center now is Sally Shaywitz.” –The Baltimore Sun

The information in this book is very very good. It has a lot of scientific information and examples of real people with dyslexia. The narration can be improved by using 1.25x speed.

Sally Shaywitz did an unbelievable job of making the most updated and helpful scientific knowledge and know-how about Dyslexia available to everyone involved. I believe I finished listening to this book about six months ago - there is not a week I am not using what I learned here for my children and myself. Shaywitz gave me an insightful understanding of Dyslexia which I will probably appreciate forever.

If you or your child have Dyslexia or difficulty reading or writing, or if you are a teacher or caregiver for children and students of any age, having this knowledge is essential. It must be understood that about 5% of people in any society have Dyslexia - that's one in twenty. Hence, you probably have at least one in your class or kindergarten. And it may be diagnosed early, and as soon as it is diagnosed and assisted - the better.

Whoa! Great book. I found out I’m dyslexic late in life (40 yrs old) and this book explained what would have taken me years to cobble together. It is also the book my daughter’s school recommended when she was diagnosed. A must read for anyone who wants to understand dyslexia and how to survive and thrive as a dyslexic.

The best book on Dyslexia out!!!

This book gives you a great perspective if you are a parent of a child with dyslexia and the things that you can do to help your child. There is less guidance for adults already living with dyslexia though still very insightful. The book doesn’t go much beyond the difficulties of reading associate with dyslexia while there are many other aspects of dyslexia such as ADD which the book does touch on briefly

Great for parents

Sally Shaywitz is the leading expert on dyslexia and this book covers every aspect of the often misunderstood disability. I’ve read many books on the topic, but this one is the most comprehensive. A must read (or listen) for anyone with dyslexia, or has a child or student with dyslexia. Read by the author and enjoyable to listen to.
