Resumen del Editor

This program includes a bonus conversation with Kim Scott.

From Kim Scott, author of the revolutionary New York Times bestseller Radical Candor, comes Just Work, a guide to recognizing, attacking, and eliminating workplace injustice and transforming our careers and organizations in the process.

We—all of us—consistently exclude, underestimate, and underutilize huge numbers of people in the workforce even as we include, overestimate, and promote others, often beyond their level of competence. Not only is this immoral and unjust, it's bad for business. Just Work is the solution.

Just Work is Kim Scott's new book, revealing a practical framework for both respecting everyone’s individuality and collaborating effectively. This is the essential guide leaders and their employees need to create more just workplaces and establish new norms of collaboration and respect.

What to do if facing discrimination or harassment

This book is brutally honest about bias (unconscious inclination), prejudice (preconceived opinion), discrimination (unjust treatment), harassment (aggressive pressure or intimidation), and unsafe work environment. The stories are enlightening as they make you realize everyone at some point has been a perpetrator (treat people unfairly because of your judgment of their superficial appearance) and a victim (the only male/female in the room, a minority, or an outsider joining a group). If you're facing discrimination or harassment/mistreatment, this book will help you decide how to proceed.

Practical and applicable

As a leader of a small team I found the way Kim broke down the issues surrounding a just working environment really helpful. The practical advice she gives also gives me hope we can make progress on our team. I recommend this book.

Honest, inspiring, actionable advice

This book is a great follow up for Radical Candor! I think a lot of women, especially in tech, can relate to this. I was hoping not to get a superficial book about diversity, and was happy to get to read a practical, no-BS book with nuanced advice for dealing with sexism and racism at work. It approaches the problem both from the individual and organisation perspectives. I was impressed by the author's honest, hard look at some of the experiences in her career, sometimes as a victim, a bystander, or as someone doing harm. In each section, she points out mistakes then lays out a clear framework to respond fairly.

Great book

Great book. It’s packed, and like Radical Candor, I recommend multiple passes. With each pass, you’ll pick up more principles or truths.

Required Reading

I have been on the receiving end of bias, prejudice, and bullying at work - and unfortunately the incidents happen so fast I never knew what to say. Fortunately this book has some great answers and tactical solutions that I plan on employing the next time it happens. I am definitely sharing this book and its advice with my mentees as well.

Frustrating read- Not what you think it is.

Diversity and bias fatigue is a real thing. We are over loaded with it in our media, jobs, family life and this book perpetuates it.

Very repetitive. Not what you think it’s going to be and seems elementary in HR diversity training.

We had a large group of people that were reading together and we unanimously voted to set the book aside. We value diversity and bias training, but this book was too frustrating to read in its format and never seemed to get to the bigger point in my opinion. Just seemed to go on and on in stories as the author attempted to get sh*t done.
