Resumen del Editor

When a bookworm on borrowed time meets a younger free-spirited chicken farmer, sparks and feathers fly....

Harrison Phillip Fletcher III isn't supposed to be here. Not in Burlington, Vermont, not running Vino & Veritas, a quaint inclusive bookstore and wine bar, and definitely not still alive, at 42. Also not supposed to be here? An unexpected delivery of chickens.

Finn Barnes knows chickens. The burly organic farmer knows all about rare breed poultry, but dealing with a hot older bookseller is an entirely different matter. City-slicker types like Harrison never end up staying in Vermont for the long-term.

They should steer clear of each other. But the flare of attraction is mutual. And somehow amid book discussions and farm tours, they discover plenty in common. Now they're stealing kisses in Finn's barn, sneaking out like teens, and burning up the sheets.

What starts as a fling brings very real feelings for two lonely souls, but a future together seems as unlikely as chickens in a bookstore. Feathers may be flying, but learning to trust takes time neither may have. Can they take a leap of faith together before it's too late?

Contains mature themes.

cute

struggled to finish listening ,Alexander Cendese is the only reason I did finish. Kirt Graves needed more emotion in his voice when reading.

Inconsistent characterization

The story was good and well written. It’s a little more superficial than I expected from this author, but still very enjoyable. Not sure about the narration. I love both narrators and if one or the other had done it all, I think it would have worked out better. These two have such different styles the characters seemed to change personalities depending on who was speaking. Maybe I just have to get use to them reading together... they can’t all be Teddy & Jacob.

Good but..

The story isn't bad, it's cute and the characters fire on you but it takes a bit and it feels forced at times. The voice actors are good independently but the narrating styles are so different that at times it feels like you're switching to new characters playing the same part every time the other narrator takes a turn in stead of keeping with the same 2 characters all the way through. And the narrator for Fin, the chicken farmer, his vice is good and his acting is not bad but he speaks too fast and too upbeat for a lot of his lines. sometimes it was hard for me to keep up with the character because some words started to blur together, he was speaking so fast. and some scenes may have benefitted from a slower and softer approach in stead of such a steadfast and upbeat one the entire time.

It's For the Birds

There is a lot of humor in this story starting with the meet cute of chickens gone astray. Both men start out thinking they have good reasons for not being in a relationship. But you get to see them deal with these reasons once they start to communicate. I listened to the audio version and it was well done.

Story had potential

The story had potential, however like other reviews have alluded to, it fell flat. I was hoping to like the audio version better than the written, however the narration killed it for me. I really wish narrators of MM romance would deviate from the effeminate voice for smaller (in size) and “softer” characters even when they aren’t written that way. It reeks of hetero-normative beliefs.

Not my favorite narrator

I’m not sure which of the two male narrators was doing the following, but I found myself preferring to read the book in kindle so it wouldn’t be annoying.
I really didn’t like how the male narrators did the voices of women, especially older women, in a way that sounded like cartoon caricatures of women’s voices. And the laugh that one male narrator used (sounding more college bro snide) was almost always jarringly out of place with the delight or sexy teasing happening in the dialogue.

In progress

I’ve got about an hour left in this book and I’m enjoying the story. I love the follow up series and that brought me to this book. However, the performance could be improved. The portrayal of Finn’s voice is a little too “bro” for me. There’s a lack of depth and emotionality that is necessary for this story. The characterized voice was loud and at times a little too hyper. He was constantly charged and possessed a rapid and pressured pattern of speech. Slow down, calm down, lower the tone and feel the words rather than read them. That may sound silly but it’s what I needed for this story.

Narrators are a bad match

The Overall Story was Great!! I loved the storyline and the characters seem great until you add in a different narrator.

Maybe I am crazy but when I listen to or read a book I visualize the characters and their surroundings completely. Isn't that why the author describes people and places in detail?

Visualizing characters is hard when you constantly change up their voices. It's one thing for them to have slight differences when using multiple narrators to express the same character, but when they sound completely different from chapter to chapter visualizing them speaking to each other is almost impossible.

If you are going to use multiple narrators please match them better or let them do a true duet
