After becoming an inadvertent viral sensation - and losing her job and her girlfriend as a result - Phoebe Shaw retreats to Vermont. Renovating her late grandmother's cabin into a vacation rental seems like the perfect way to lie low for a while. But the last person she expects to encounter on the property is the woman whose kiss was her teenage sexual awakening...and whom she's never quite forgotten.
Taylor Donovan has been hiking on the trails behind the Shaw family's cabin her whole life. As children, Taylor and Phoebe were best friends before sharing a secret summer romance when they were 16, which left Taylor brokenhearted when Phoebe fled at the end of the summer. Now the property has become Taylor's home away from home, and she wants nothing more than to convince the Shaws to sell it to her. But Phoebe's return puts a crimp in those plans - and brings back old feelings she thought she'd overcome.
Of all the things Phoebe regrets, leaving Taylor is at the top of the list, but Taylor is determined to protect her heart. Yet the pull between them is stronger than ever. This time around, will love stay hidden...or finally see the light of day?
Contains mature themes.

Negatives:
I don't think it needed two narrators, and if it did could they not have stayed with their character? It was hard to follow.
I also have a hard time listening to books, movies, songs, etc., these days that solely revolve around the whole "we can't be together" storyline. I get it, we've been oppressed. I want stories that are past that and getting into the every day stuff that couples fight over. The initial issue was Phoebe not being out, but it evolved to more than that so I was happy. Then when they almost are able to see a future together, the thought of "long distance" (being only 3 hours away from each other) was the issue. Long distance relationships are possible people!
I'm also mixed about the way Taylor was just like my way or the high way. On one hand, she seems to know exactly what she wants and doesn't want which sounds healthy, but wow she really put it all on Phoebe to figure it all out. I was like like damn, at least she's trying!
Very cute story

I love a good second chance romance and have not been disappointed in a Rachel Lacey book yet!
The circumstances aren't ideal. Phoebe had to escape the big city and is only back in town temporarily to renovate her grandmother's cabin - the cabin that childhood best friend and first love Taylor has long wanted to buy. But Phoebe's father isn't looking to sell and wants it to be a vacation rental. Taylor has ties to the place - having been close to Phoebe's grandmother and using trails on the property for most of her life.
Taylor manages the local animal shelter and convinces Phoebe to take in an emergency case when there are no other options. Since Taylor is stuck in town while doing the work, she reluctantly agrees. Seeing Taylor every day reminds her of the closeness they once shared and neither can deny the attraction they still feel. But Taylor isn't willing to open up her heart to Phoebe only to be heartbroken again when she leaves. But Phoebe is in a transition period in her life and might just be able to make a real go of it. If only Taylor might be willing to take the risk.
I loved the friendship dynamic between these characters and genuinely liked them. I appreciated that Phoebe was always open and honest with Taylor about where she was in her life, her plans, what she needed and wanted. She also followed through when she told Taylor she was going to do something. There was no unnecessary drama and no third act black point which I always appreciate!
The dual-narration audiobook was very enjoyable - especially Abby Craden voicing Taylor. While Melissa Moran did a fair job with Phoebe, I was more than ready for Abby to take back over. She's masterful at her job and I never tire of hearing her.
I recommend all of Lacey's books - my favorite being Stars Collide. The only ones of hers I have left to read are those in the Midnight in Manhattan series and I'm really looking forward to those!
A very enjoyable second chance romance!
