Brent Weyland was the life of the party until an injury ended his hockey career. Now he's retreated alone to a lakefront house, trying to make sense of a life and body that doesn't feel like his anymore.

Jon Norquist was happily married right up until he wasn't. Now a single father in his 40s, he's trying to figure out what comes next. In the meantime, he pours his heartache and regret into the lyrics he sings for the wine bar crowd a couple of nights a week.

When a friend coaxes Brent out for a night of wine and music, he puts Brent and Jon on a collision course. Their chemistry is instantaneous. Jon gives Brent's battered body a much-needed remedial lesson in pleasure. And Brent gives Jon a reason to smile again.

Multiple reasons, actually. Neither man wants anything serious, but love has a habit of showing up whether it's welcome or not. No matter how hard they try, the two can't help having feelings for each other, even as life continues to throw them curveballs.

But they've both got baggage to unpack and hurt to move past, and if they can't leave their pasts in the past, they might just miss out on an amazing future.

Contains mature themes.

I cried so much, the voice actors did a too good of a job, tough subjects especially if one can project, but a well deserved happy ending ❤️

Tears guaranteed

Very real life and melancholy through the entire book. I almost stopped listening a few times but got through it. Sweet characters but a bit too depressing for me.

Melancholy

Both narrators were great. But the story…. It felt like the characters had the same conversation over and over and over and over again. It got really old and annoying.

Great narration but….

Enjoyed this book immensely. I have lived this experience and could totally relate. A few sappy spots but it’s a love story so it’s to be expected. The narration was astounding great acting I believed these actors, especially John Solo were the characters they portrayed. Great job!

Worth it!

John solo never disappoints, and the relatability of Brent just took this over the top for me! as someone who struggles with chronic pain, I nodded along with so much of his post-accident struggles. thank you for the representation!

fantastic!

I liked this book a lot. It was better than most. It was read well and the discussion about recovery and others not knowing your pain slightly mirrors things I’m dealing with meaning to be the story was a bit therapeutic for me. I will enjoy again later.

The discussion of recovery.

the overall story is cute and somewhat relatable but oh my God... John's narrator has to have the most whiney, b*txh voice ever. it has erked my nerves the whole book. there is no reason to make the voice of any of these characters so damn whiney. Brett's narrator is cool. no complaints there.

Cute but Jon's narrator is awful

I was in tears by chapter 2 or 3. This was a gut punch. The stressors of depression and loneliness, bullying masked as tough love or encouragement, and self-doubt will have your heart aching and breaking. Brent's dad can eat a d!ck.

**If we can get John, in Jon's voice, to say my name, I'd be ever so grateful and fully recovered from this rollercoaster.**

Jon's Voice 🔥🔥🔥

This was so good. Both narrators nailed it! LA Witt really knows how to develop a character so that you’re really in their head. I hurt when they hurt. I laughed when they laughed. Just a really good storyline with emotions all over the place.

Great Character Development

I can write from personal experience that the author had some very valid points about being an athlete with serious hip and knee injuries. Those injuries have impactful consequences on all aspects of your life.

The romance was well thought out. Some of the internal dialog was a bit repetitive. I wanted a bit more from Ethan. He seemed like such an important character to have such a small part.

The story overall was engaging and insightful. The narration was well performed by both narrators, and I look forward to more books by this creative team.

Good story. Good narration.
