This is an audiobook about being successful, fulfilled and happy in a world in which you don't always feel you fit in. Many people are emotionally sensitive and intense, and while these characteristics need not limit us, they often hold us back from expressing ourselves, being heard and taking charge of our life, love and work. This audiobook is a complete guide that shows sensitive and intense people how to navigate, successfully and predictably, the fundamental relationships that make up their lives - demonstrating along the way that intense feelings are a gift not a curse.

Statistics show that 50 percent of what determines divorce is genetic temperament. And, if you are one of the 20 percent of people who are born highly sensitive, the risk of an unhappy relationship is especially high. Your finely tuned nervous system, which picks up on subtleties and reflects deeply, would be a romantic asset if both you and your partner understood you better. But without that understanding, your sensitivity is likely to be making your close relationships painful and complicated.

Lane Moore is a rare performer who is as impressive onstage - whether hosting her iconic show Tinder Live or being the enigmatic front woman of It Was Romance - as she is on the page, as both a former writer for The Onion and an award-winning sex and relationships editor for Cosmopolitan. But her story has had its obstacles, including being her own parent, living in her car as a teenager, and moving to New York City to pursue her dreams. Through it all, she looked to movies, TV, and music as the family and support systems she never had.

An intense conversation, a spat with a partner, or even an obnoxious tweet - these situations aren't life-or-death, yet we often react as if they are. That's because our bodies treat most perceived threats the same way. Yet one approach has proven to be incredibly effective in training our nervous system to stop overreacting: polyvagal theory. In Anchored, expert teacher Deb Dana shares a down-to-earth presentation of polyvagal theory, then brings the science to life with practical, everyday ways to transform your relationship with your body.

Historia
The causes of Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder range from severe neglect to monstrous abuse. Many survivors grew up in houses that were not homes-in families that were as loveless as orphanages and sometimes as dangerous. If you felt unwanted, unliked, rejected, hated, and/or despised for a lengthy portion of your childhood, trauma may be deeply engrained in your mind, soul, and body. This book is a practical guide to recovering from lingering childhood trauma. It is copiously illustrated with examples of the author's and his clients' journeys of recovering.

Most people don't realize how much unresolved emotional pain they carry around. They don't know why they always feel depressed, anxious, victimized, or disappointed. They wonder why they keep making the same self-sabotaging impulsive decisions. These patterns often stem from their lost inner child, which carries a false narrative that has been on repeat since childhood.

"Are you one of us?" a patient once asked Marsha Linehan, the world-renowned psychologist who developed dialectical behavior therapy. "Because if you were, it would give all of us so much hope." Over the years, DBT had saved the lives of countless people fighting depression and suicidal thoughts, but Linehan had never revealed that her pioneering work was inspired by her own desperate struggles as a young woman. Only when she received this question did she finally decide to tell her story.

We've all seen the happiness on the face of a child while playing in the school yard. Or the blissful abandon of a golden retriever racing across a lawn. This is the joy of play. By definition, play is purposeless, all-consuming, and fun. But as Dr. Stuart Brown illustrates, play is anything but trivial. It is a biological drive as integral to our health as sleep or nutrition. We are designed by nature to flourish through play.

Written for just the misunderstood HSP.
There's very little in here for the spouses of HSPs. It's written just to the misunderstood HSP themselves. It makes one suspect that the author herself is one of this group being described. And she goes to great pains to elevate and appreciate and depathologize HSPs. That's pretty special because HSPs can finally see themselves in her writing and work and feel valuable and vindicated in some way. I don't think it really asks them to do a whole lot of inner work. It's more of a reassurance than it is a guide for HSPs to rethink their relationship to the world in a way that is less grating to their nerves. I think that there is a brief segment on a meditation but I would have liked to see more in that department. from what I have witnessed, spending more time with meditation and a practice of gratitude and a practice of surrender seem to be the key things for people with this psychological profile to be able to live in community with others.
I found the diction of the narrator to be grating as it was overly precise English diction that hit every T without fail. It might also have just rubbed me the wrong way for no reason?
