A good building second book

I've read a bunch of Abby this and Abby that in the reviews. I'm pretty sure those are from folks that have never been in a actual relationship. Sure, it goes into depth of the inner struggle, but I find it relatable. looking forward to the next book. I just hope we see more progress from the MC.

was pure enjoyment that I could not stop listening too. this book was a great follow-up and picked right up.

The leveling system makes no sense!

I am very confused with how characters gain experience and level up in this novel series.. it seems you can kill a high-level boss and multiple elites in still gain very little experience, and yet kill a bunch of small fries and gain a level. By the end of this book, the main character has killed many high-level creatures and boss monsters, and still only gains a couple levels. It’s just very confusing and frustrating. Mostly the main character grows by gaining additional titles. The whole system just really doesn’t make any sense and I think it’s just an author’s tool to limit the characters the away he wanted. The other thing that frustrates me is that the author takes and uses many bad clichés in this novel to help build up the suspense. I can’t tell you how many times where the main character says “well I know I’m going to die now, because there’s no way I can survive this”, and then an “Act of the Author” something comes in to save him at the last moment.

The inconsistency is awful

Both zeke and abbey both have times where they're saying 1 thing and actions do another. It is constantly mentioned that they've "hardened up to death" and yet they continue to hesitate or have "moral dilemmas" over every thing or person they kill. It would be fine if it wasn't constantly mentioned that they've hardened themselves to death, etc etc. Abbey talks about her life and ex and how she refuses to be powerless, and yet most decisions until near the end tend to be exactly that. There is a part where within a few minutes, she does exactly opposite of what she says. You'll know it when you hear it after an assassination.
I will try the next book out but as of now, if you have a problem with inconsistent personality writing, I'd skip. I'll come back after book 3 to edit this if it's gotten better.

Liked literally everything but abby

The first book was probably the best book I’ve listened to in a while and when i saw the next book was coming out next month I preordered it and well i like the second book but the author really needs to figure out what to do with abby because so far she is becoming the toxic partner in the relationship besides that every other character i enjoyed like tucker the mad alchemist and talia the undead/living slaughterhouse

Enjoyable

While i did enjoyed the book and found it entertaining, i think book 1 was better on this one zeke just seems/feels less than on B1 also i don't know how to feel about him going from a barbarian/berserker style of fighting to that of a tank. one thing that kinda annoyed me was how many times this line was repeated: Abby learned her lesson. hope book 3 is better

Yes!! Long awaited and worth the wait.

an enjoyable installment to the series, tank build with that high dps kept me in all the way. Can't wait for the next installment.

is the MC overpowered or not

Spending 25 hours talking about how strong zeke is and then having him almost die from falling down a slight incline is just ridiculous. He broke half his body parts and got a concussion from gravity ?

Very little progression. Character behavior is erratic and inconsistent. The alchemist is supposedly a sociopath but acts altruistic. The “direbear“ acts as a moral compass. Etc

Book 1 had a very “Defiance of the Fall” feeling, initial dungeon mishap resulting in a very OP MC (MC name is even “Zeke Blackwood” instead of “Zach Atwood”). But the smooth progression pulled off in “Defiance” and the consistent behavior and motivations of characters in that series are lacking here. Zeke is something of a Mary Sue berzerking barbarian. He is a brainless club-swinger who also is a deep scholar of runecraft. Zeke happily sexes up his companion Allie on the reg, but can’t even bring himself to call her his “girlfriend” despite internally professing love-like feelings for her. The behavioral inconsistencies just create friction points in the flow of the narrative.
