Great start to a new series!

I love a good dragon fantasy book! This covers all the bases for me a good coming of age, strong main character, not to OP, and a great story! Check this out book out I was so sad when it ended!

Wow, LOVED this story

I came into this expecting a filler story to hold my attention while all the good stuff is on hiatus. I was WRONG. I loved everything about this story, from start to finish it was wholesome, and exiting. I’m very much looking forward to the rest of this series.

Everything a Dragon Rider Story should be

I know this story was the writers first big hit in this genre and what is crazy is how well the relationships are done in this story.

Over and over there is solid development and growth between everyone related to the Mc. You can feel and see them changing and adapting. Also the tropes that so often kill a story are far less here.

Honestly better than Eragon from all those Ive talked to who have read this story and listened.

An absolutely great story

Here's a rare story where absolutely everything is done exceptionally well. The main character is fun and believable. The supporting characters are great. The battle sequences are great. The progression items are great.

There is a constant feeling of threat in the story. Things are set-up for big pay-off later. The enemies are great. The dragon is a lot of fun. The magic system is great. The world building is great. The resolution of the book is great. When presented with problems, there is plenty of time to consider what to do, and then the action that follows is good.

This is one of the best stories I've listened to this year. Highly recommended.

Author, If you read this. Great book! I hope your next book is just as good if not better than this one! Take your time and don’t rush. A quality book will always outclass a rushed one.

The ending kind of killed it.

Leading up to the last 20% of the book was pretty good with some minor issues here and there. However, The sequence of the major battle kind of destroyed everything the book had going. long story short the plan was kept secret even from the reader and never had any real explanation and left me with the impression that there was no plan and a bunch of people died because the leaders were idiots. while in reality it was just that the author wanted to spend more time describing teenage love angst then develop a actual plausible series of events. last minute save after last minute save made it even more ridiculous. overall the ending battle was just disappointing.

I’m on the fence with this one.

I enjoyed the story and I don’t regret the purchase. On the other hand, the writing needs some work. There were some very “YA” moments and writing throughout the book…. For the most part the writing was ok, but every so often the characters would act like overwrought, high-school drama-club participants, or the banter would fall flat, or the author would use the same word in three consecutive sentences.

There were also more than a couple cringy, misogynistic sections where the author’s apparent chest fetish is on full display. Again, these weren’t deal breakers but they just added to the sense that the writing in this book could use a better editor.

In the end, I think I would be fairly selective about recommending this audiobook. Some people might find the flaws to be completely acceptable while others might find they want their credit back.

I think I’ll wait to see what the reviews are like on the second installment before deciding whether to pick it up or not.

It’s like a Monster movie. 70% on human interaction 30% on monster. Horny teens and monster sometimes shows up.

Narrator is good tho.
