Effie Campbell once again delivers a dangerously addictive, taboo-tinged romance that blurs the line between obsession and surrender. Logan and Valentina’s chemistry is combustible and his internal battle between duty and desire had me hanging on every word, while Valentina’s confidence and refusal to stay “off-limits” made her an instant favorite.

The narration trio absolutely nailed the tension and emotional depth and each voice enhanced the forbidden pull and made every heated exchange feel alive. The pacing lagged slightly in the middle, but the buildup and payoff were worth it.

If you love your dark romances with a touch of moral grayness and a whole lot of heat, Dark Desires will scratch that itch perfectly.

Book four of the McGowan Mafia Series, Dark Desires by Effie Campbell, grabbed by attention from the beginning! Throughout this listen I had in the back of my mind what certain characters may get up to in this book. I will say, my hunch was correct. The how and the why of how this dark twist came to be, was unexpected. I am here of it.

Our FMC, Valentina has an interesting career as a Cam girl who shares an apartment with her best friend Lara. In her down time, Valentina loves to bake, and by all accounts bakes like an "absolute goddess". Logan is our MMC who is finding his way since taking over running of the family business, the McGowan syndicate. Unlike Valentina, Logan's new position is weighing heavily on his mind, and with his business arrangement in the form of upcoming nuptials fast approaching. Logan has little time for any fun. Needing a distraction, Logan discovers Valentina. So begins the push and pull as they play with fire.

Valentina and Logan are both powerful s3xually confident characters. I could feel their connection to each other strengthening the deeper I ventured into their story. At first I thought it was all about the depravity these two craved. The balance between their desire to share a dark deviant bond whilst trying to appease others (particularly Logan) had me a little frustrated at times. This frustration is warranted within this story, and had me devouring this book hastily. I was cheering for these two to be wrapped in happiness and joy as they lived out their intense dark unhinged fantasies.

The intensity and emotion is brought to the table by three fantastic voice actors, Francesca Peregrine, Freddie Wills and James Joseph. Both Francesca and Freddie are new to me actors, and I enjoyed their performance immensely! Francesca, Freddie and James portrayed each and every character with flawless precision, particularly with the scenes of torment, fighting their dark desires, to the intense unhinged spicy scenes.

Thank you Effie for another enjoyable story which I both read and listened to. I am invested in the McGowan Mafia Series and cannot wait for the next instalment. Not ready for this series to end.

Dark Desires delivers in every category from high emotions, delicious spice, and intense twists and turns. What’s intriguing about this story is it’s not just about getting to the end result with spice, but taking the time to understand how a person feels and thinks to really know what makes them sexually light up. Logan, the MMC, is very strategic in how he develops a connection with someone in an intimate way. He slowly draws out Valentina’s vulnerabilities, greatest desires, and needs. Logan isn’t all about himself, he wants Valentina’s desires to be the upmost importance because learning her’s in turn gives him the most pleasure. He wants the exquisite combination of feeling satiated, but also cherished. Valentina, the FMC, knows what she wants out of life and takes pride in everything she does especially her job. She wants to be seen and values her independence. She’s confident in her abilities, but wants a challenge that stops her in her tracks. Let’s just say Logan teases out all her desires so well Valentina feels she’s met her match. The narrators Francesca Peregrine, Freddie Wills, & James Joseph will have you so addicted to this story you will without a doubt give your full submission. Francesca Peregrine beautifully articulates an authentic scottish accent that makes Valentina's allure much more enticing. Freddie Wills's voice will have you curling your toes and begging for more. James Joseph's voice provides the extra flare to keep edging you on for the sweetest torture.

Omg where do I begin?!?! This man is everything and more! He made all her fantasies come true and then some. The ending was the most perfect ending to a book yet. This definitely had my attention from the start. She was not shy about what she wanted and he wasn’t shy about wanting to give it to her. But first, he had to make her submit and learn that she wasn’t going to get things so easily. I won’t lie when I say that ending was definitely something that peaked my interest haha!

This book flipped the script in the best way, and I loved every minute of it.
Valentina knows exactly what she wants and doesn’t hesitate. Logan does his best to stay on the straight-and-narrow… but let’s be honest, he never stood a chance. Once she walked into Rosenhall, all bets were off.
And Alfie? My beloved agent of chaos. Every time he appeared, the tension and trouble doubled, and I was absolutely delighted. He stole every scene he was in and added so much spark to the story.

This book was packed with twists, tension, and moments that left me staring at the wall in shock. There’s a scene with Logan, Alfie, and Valentina that has been living rent-free in my head ever since—intense, emotional, and unforgettable.

🎧 Performed in duet by Francesca Peregrine, Freddie Wills, and James Joseph — the narration was outstanding. Francesca delivers every emotion effortlessly, Freddie’s accent is irresistible, and James Joseph brings such presence and depth that even the quiet moments feel charged.
