Am I happy? How would I know? What is the measure of happiness?

Deep thoughts to indulge on my birthday, while at a funeral. As I stare down into my grandfather-in-law’s grave, it’s all I can think about. When was the last time I felt truly happy with my life?

Those questions linger long after the funeral, eating away at my tranquility like a necrotic wound, until one night I finally ask my husband if we can open our marriage to "live a little." Surprisingly, he says yes.

I throw myself headlong into an adventure through the bars and bedrooms of Austin, Texas. For the first time in my life I’m living in the moment—new friends, new lovers, new boundaries to cross. It's all just innocent, no-strings fun...until I meet Alex. Alex changes everything.

During self-discovery, have I stumbled across love?

Book one of the award-winning Lost in Austin series, Up for Air, is an unconventional romance that can be listened to as a standalone.

I was intrigued to the very end. This is such a great listen.

Told in duet by Laura Horowitz and Ryan Lee Dunlap. Both were new-to-me narrators and let me say, I was blown away by their incredible performances. They perfected giving Ari, Greg and all the side characters a voice… a pulse… a purpose. I cannot recommend this audiobook enough.

It was raw, and unnerving but truthful and real. I was consumed with the journey the FMC found herself on and what it meant, not only for her but for her husband and their future. My stomach dipped and flipped, and I think my anxiety was at peak level while navigating this course with her.

4.5 stars! Ari’s story is definitely an interesting one. She met her husband young, and they’re seemingly very happy in their marriage and relationship. But when reflecting on the life of someone they lost, she begins to question whether she is truly happy, or if she has missed out on something, or is missing out on something in her life. When she talks to her husband, Greg, about opening their marriage, while initially taken aback, he actually agrees fairly quickly, laying down some initial ground rules, and then they move on.

Things start off slow. Ali is testing the waters, and her comfort level, when she ventures into a bar, not knowing what to expect. She almost immediately meets the people who will help shape her path and become a wonderful found family in her life. As Ali maneuvers through her « bucket list » of experiences, some going much better than others, she learns many new things about herself and her marriage - including that seeing her husband explore his new freedoms brings on a slew of very mixed emotions. I found myself surprised at how easily Greg agreed to the entire situation, and their navigation of this new relationship status seems almost disconnected. But in the end, I feel like this was by design. When Alex really comes in the picture, the dynamic has changed so many times, and it’s so interesting to see how everything ultimately plays out between them.

The journey that Ali goes on is entirely intriguing. And the relationships she builds and changes are varied and emotional on many different levels. Since this is single POV, from Ali’s perspective, it’s strictly her journey, but clearly there is more behind this for Greg as well. The resolution of Ali’s journey, which to be fair, is not completely resolved, in the end feels like what it should be for her. There are some loose ends, and since this is an ongoing journey for this group of friends, they are sure to be touched upon as the series continues. But overall, it’s a great story, and I love not only the path, but all the characters that become a part of Ali’s life.

Audiobook Review - The narrators for this book are excellent! Both the male and female narrator do a fantastic job not only with bringing life to Ari and Greg, but all the other characters come wonderfully to life in just the right way for each of their personality. I already enjoyed this book, listening to it was just another level of happiness for my ears!

Christina Berry’s “Up For Air,” a beautifully told romance novel, comes to life from the pages to your ears, performed by the wonderfully talented Laura Horowitz and Ryan Lee Dunlap. An enthralling story, or more like a journey or an exploration of one finding their happiness, one who always played it safe and wonders if they ever really lived, wondering what else is out there, when their life just isn’t doing it for them. The characters in this book are realistic, easy to relate to and connect with, and they are likeable too. Ari and Greg married young, and their passion and fire for one another continues to burn, but Ari questions her happiness, and thinks of all the things she hasn’t done, feeling she hasn’t really lived her life to the fullest. Talking it over with her husband, and asking to have an open marriage, was something she hadn’t thought he’d agree with, but he did, for her and then for him. Kudos to Ari for her courage and going for what she wanted, and despite a weak start, she met an impressionable guy, Alex, who she thought she’s never see again. It was great watching her go through the list of things she wanted to do, mostly other guys and experiences, some were super hot too. We hear about Greg’s chosen relationship, feeling he played it safe. I was curious what their open-marriage arrangement would do for and to their relationship in the long run, and I started off rooting for them, then rooting for someone else. Jack was an important person to both of them, and I was getting ideas there too. I loved all the layer of this story and how it all played out, with the perfect balance of drama, a touch of angst, heartwarming moments, heartfelt emotions and steamy romance. Berry’s writing, plot and world building are fantastic, as are the character growth and development. Christina Berry, thank you for this fabulous story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧  And for the amazing audiobook listen, Laura Horowitz and Ryan Lee Dunlap were a perfect pairing and cast to bring these characters to life, giving each a voice that was fitting and believable. Horowitz was a natural in Ari’s role, grasping every aspect of her personality, from her insecurities to her strength and determination, as well as her confidence. Dunlap was just as amazing covering the roles of several male characters, embodying each one completely and nailing them all. You could hear how heart they put into their performance, expressively conveying all the characters’ emotions and making you feel each one. It is a pleasure to listen to these entertaining storytellers perform, and it is a captivating performance that keeps you hooked to the story.

Such great voices. I always enjoy these two when the narrate.

Ariana finds herself feeling numb and like she’s just going throw the motions of life. Not happy but not unhappy just floating through each day. Until the death of a family member makes her start to think of all she hasn’t done and she needs a change.

Greg is Ariana’s husband that she’s been with for 12 years, the only man she’s kissed and done anything with. He’s a good guy, loving and supportive. So when she asks him to open their marriage to date others he only hesitates a fraction.

This is a bit of an emotional roller coaster with a HEA it just might not be what you expect. I enjoyed the writing and the story line. It was interesting to see where the new path took Ari and it was definitely not what I had anticipated for her.

Overall, this is a good book about feeling lost and finding yourself again. Dealing with tons of emotions along the way.
