This was a very different type of mafia love story. It even made me cry how much Phoenix showed his love for her!! It was spicy and the build up was perfect!! The narrators perfect performance!! I would listen to this again and again!! ❤️‍🔥

What starts as a kidnapping on the eve of her wedding spirals into a dangerous, obsessive connection neither of them can walk away from.

I’ll admit, the beginning felt a little uneven for me, but once the tension between Phoenix and Laura took hold, I was hooked. The push and pull, the danger and desire—it all built into an intense dark romance that had me devouring the last half in one sitting.

The narration was absolutely unmatched. Francesca Peregrine and William Macleod didn’t just read the story—they embodied it. The emotion, the heat, and the grit came alive in a way that made every scene hit harder.

If you love your romance dark, obsessive, and a little dangerous, this one’s worth sticking with—the payoff is worth it.

ooo These two narrators are new to me Francesca Peregrine and William Macleod. I absolutely loved these two, Bringing Pheonix and Laura to life.
Laura was a bit bratty and Francesca did a wonderful job, I loved the protectiveness William gave Phoenix. I need to find more books from these two.

This was my first book by Effie Campbell and I’m already looking for what to read next!

The audio was phenomenal—Francesca and William performed this in duet narration, and it made the story feel so immersive. The emotion, the chemistry, the tension… they nailed it. You could really feel Phoenix’s intensity and Laura’s strength through their voices. The production quality was clean and crisp, with smooth transitions and great pacing throughout.

As for the story—if you love dark romance with revenge, spice, and a morally grey hero who’s completely obsessed (in the best way), this is one to grab. Phoenix will do anything to help Laura get justice, and the way his backstory unfolds? Gut-wrenching and beautiful.

No third-act breakup, perfect pacing, slowburn tension, and a hero who’s both feral and gentle? I ate this up.

Highly recommend the audio version for a full experience!

i’ve been known to not enjoy audiobooks but call me a believer after this! i throughly enjoyed every bit! even the accents, which i can be picky about, were so likeable! the fmc narrator wasn’t robotic at all, baby girl was acting the house down. and the male narrator was H O T hot! when he’d say what he spelled out on her skin i was melting! both the book and audio were great and looking forward to reading/listening more from Effie!
