Publisher's summary

Before the demons invaded, Nathan had everything he ever wanted. Women, power, magical talent, wealth, a fortress full of loyal soldiers.

Now, a beautiful demonic general offers him a choice: Die; or start a new life with her in the past and rewrite history. Nathan accepts and is sent back in time to before the end of the world.

Everything Nathan earned in his original life is gone, but he still has his years of knowledge and experience. Even better, he knows what will happen in the future. He doesn’t know why the demons sent him back, but he refuses to waste this opportunity. Nathan will take back everything he once had. But first, he must stop a demonic invasion from ending the world.

Heretic Spellblade contains plenty of violence, harem/undefined relationships, beast girls, and scenes that don’t fade to black. Consider yourself warned.

Actually has a story

Often times these types of books lack substance and instead focus on carnal fantasies. This one actually has a cool storyline, fight scenes and world building.

Powerful Characters and Political Intrigue...

This is the fantasy isekai/reincarnation story I've been looking for. Intelligent and well thought out characters. A complex story with interesting sub-plots to be revealed.

Smartly written fantasy story

I really enjoy this setting and the premise here. I think KD is really using the time travel element for all it's worth. It's like a power fantasy without the "power" and I think it's a great subversion of expectations. Despite being harem-lit, I don't get the feeling of cardboard plot lines that so often plague the genre and makes me want to give up on trying new stories. I'm looking forward to the rest of this series and to checking out the others from KD.

Pretty good

Overall the story was pretty good. the narrator took some getting used to. At first I really didn't think her voice was suited to this type of story at all. I got used to it after awhile though. she's not bad don't get me wrong, she just doesn't really fit this type of book. It was especially jarring coming from a book right before this narrated by Andrea Parsneau.

Outstanding quality series

Excellent story characters and voice acting. Heretic Spellblade is one of the best series in the genre. The author handles world building magic systems and characters as well as any popular sf/f series in a genre usually lacking in high quality storytelling.

Solid harem story

Very reminiscent of a William D Arand with tamer Randi Darren tones, although far tamer. Unique take on magical logic and an MC who is transported into the past. Very enjoyable.

very solid setup to a series

very solid set up. By the end of book one you could see what the author was trying to accomplish with this first book.

At first I felt the pacing was a little rushed. Waves a hand and Bastion is rebuild. He's very OP so he waves a hand and some Bandits are dealt with.
Base building and struggling while the base was being built to defend against Bandits and others could have been one book in itself.

he quickly Meets one or two women he knew from his previous life, so instead of a subplot consisting of him trying to gain their trust or win them over, he basically hacks a shortcut with magic.
again that could have been an interesting subplot.

but I realized I was missing the point.
the author was trying to quickly established the protagonist in his new position so he can get to the meat of his story starting a book 2.

this book was basically setting the stage for this long war, and the author had to take a few shortcuts to get us there and let the protagonist have a couple with him quickly.

so it does that job. Thumbs up.
