Une nuit de novembre, à Paris, Jean-Baptiste Clamence, traversant un pont sur la Seine, entend le cri d’une femme qu’il vient de croiser. Celle-ci s’est jetée dans le fleuve et se noie. Il continue son chemin et ne fait rien pour la sauver. Mais comment continuer à vivre après? Le mur des certitudes d’une vie riche et brillante se lézarde.

Suite à une épidémie de peste, les autorités décident de fermer la ville d'Oran. Les habitants s'organisent pour survivre au siège de cette maladie mortelle et en particulier le docteur Rieux. Il est l'un des premiers à identifier les symptômes de la maladie et devient une figure centrale dans l'organisation sanitaire de la ville.

Texte intégral lu par Albert Camus en Avril 1954 en accord avec Gallimard et l'Institut national de l'Audiovisuel. En juin 1942, paraît un court roman "L'Etranger". L'auteur est un inconnu de 28 ans qui allait non seulement modifier l'histoire de la littérature française, mais aussi celle de la philosophie du XXe siècle avec la formulation du sentiment de l'absurdité du destin humain.

By one of the most profoundly influential thinkers of our century, The Rebel is a classic essay on revolution. For Albert Camus, the urge to revolt is one of the "essential dimensions" of human nature, manifested in man's timeless Promethean struggle against the conditions of his existence, as well as the popular uprisings against established orders throughout history. Ya en fechas de su publicación original, el autor confirmó lo que muchos lectores veían por sí solos: la epidemia era una alegoría de la ocupación nazi en Francia. Sin embargo, ese paralelismo no agota la capacidad profética del relato, que advierte sobre los peligros invisibles que acechan a toda sociedad moderna.

An immediate triumph when it was published in 1947, The Plague is in part an allegory of France’s suffering under the Nazi occupation, as well as a timeless story of bravery and determination against the precariousness of human existence.

"18 juillet. Hier à midi, sur la plage de Tipaza, un employé de bureau dénommé Meursault, demeurant rue Bab-Azoun à Alger, a tué de cinq balles de revolver un Arabe non encore identifié. Les motifs du crime restent inconnus. Arrêté, Meursault a été transféré à la prison d'Alger." Jugé, reconnu coupable de meurtre avec préméditation, condamné à mort et exécuté, on ne saura jamais pourquoi Meursault a tué. Il assiste à son procès comme si c'était un autre qu'on jugeait. Une profonde réflexion sur l'être et la vie.

In The First Man, Albert Camus tells the story of Jacques Cormery, a boy who lived a life much like his own. Camus summons up the sights, sounds, and textures of a childhood circumscribed by poverty and a father's death yet redeemed by the austere beauty of Algeria and the boy's attachment to his nearly deaf-mute mother. The result is a moving journey through the lost landscape of youth that also discloses the wellsprings of Camus's aesthetic powers and moral vision.
