I’m not going to get lucky again like I did with Demeter. I have to learn all this, and if I don't, I’ll be grounded in my room when everyone tries to rescue my God.

Rook has threatened Misty. We sent his Queen on the run, and she nearly killed Casey on her way out. I’m not a computer genius or a cop. I’m an artist, and I was a military medic. I don’t have the skills to do anything except help Casey heal and just be moral support while my friends do what I can’t. I feel helpless and powerless to protect Misty.

She signs up for a correspondence course to learn to be a secret agent. Her training is unconventional, but she's determined.

Adam lives his life in a haze of booze, cigarettes, and karmic bad luck. Rush Limbaugh recently did a radio show that President Obama was paying lesbians to become farmers to infiltrate rural areas for some nefarious purpose. Jeb thinks his farm is safe, way out where he lives, at least for the next year or so while he comes up with a plan to drive the invading lesbians out when they do show up. Jeb was not expecting the lesbians to arrive on 15-foot-high Clydesdales with demonic red eyes and a cow named Anne Boleyn.
