So good!

Loved the characters, the magic, the world and the whole thing was just plain awesome! :)

I wasn't sure at first

I only started the sample of this since I really enjoyed how Jennifer Ikeda read "A Discovery of Witches". After a few seconds in feared that I wouldn't be able to adjust to the characters since I knew her for others but as soon as the thought entered my mind it was gone and I went ahead and bought the book! It is a must read! Loved it!

Fantastic!

Just great! Loved this upper YA/new adult story from Sarah Maas. I'm a big fan of her other stories and really enjoyed the fairy tale echoes that were in this story.

mistifying tale of love

this story intertwines the tale of beauty and the beast, phantom of the opera, and persephony beautifully. it is non stop action.

Interesting twists

I really enjoyed the story. Some parts seemed very familiar, like a twist on Beauty and the Beast, but it still had its own soul. And just when I thought I could predict what happens next there's another twist and the plot thickens... One thing some people might want to know is that there are 3-4ish sex scenes. I'd tried to find out ahead of time because I prefer clean reads. The comments I'd read were very vague and said it was part of the plot, and tasteful, and not too descriptive. I have to disagree- it was plenty descriptive. And IMO didn't add anything of importance to the plot. Since I was listening I just fast forwarded, but be warned.

I enjoyed it

To be honest, I originally thought about giving this book three or four stars because it's not really some amazing work of art. But I really enjoyed it so it earned a five star review from me.

Most of it is really a fantasy romance; a bit like a version of Beauty and the Beast. A part of me simply enjoys this sort of thing and it definitely wasn't a bad book. It started out really slowly with a few interesting events happening in the beginning followed by chapters upon chapters of nothing. But probably about halfway through it really picked up and I actually had trouble stopping.

I also found the narrator a perfect fit and I'm sure that she actually managed to make the book better and more interesting than it would have been otherwise.

This next part has spoilers so if you don't like this sort of thing, you can probably stop reading now. My biggest problem with the book was that the trials just seemed far too simple. The first one was a test of the protagonist's strength, sure, but it still could have involved a creature with less glaringly obvious weaknesses. The second trial was pretty ridiculous considering that its biggest difficulty was Feyre's inability to read, a weakness that had been unknown to Amarantha. Also, the riddle that was meant to be so hard was actually very easy. But once I stopped focusing on the shortcomings, I still really enjoyed it more as an Indulgence rather than anything else.

Too Explicit Sex for a YA Novel

Ever felt like it would be nice if books had ratings? If they did this one would be rated R. The sex scenes were pretty explicit and I think should keep this book from being listed as for young adults. The story was interesting and well written but the sex scenes were just too much!

Love it!

This is one of my favorite books! I've already listened to it twice! It's very well written. My only problem is that it's a bit graphic during the sex moment... I wouldn't have my teenage girls read it.
