Ujaya Shakya, Founder of Outreach in Nepal and author of Brandsutra, and the first vice president of the Advertising Association of Nepal, is my very special guest on this, the 116th episode of our award-winning MVP – The Master’s Voice Podcast. We caught up with Ujaya for this Vodcast and Podcast which is available on both – YouTube, and a set of the top global podcast directories including Google Podcasts, Apple Podcasts and Spotify, among others.

Ujaya speaks of the size of the advertising market in Nepal, highlighting the growth of digital media and the impact of television content. He also speaks about the evolution of advertising in Nepal over the years, especially with the rise of digital media and changing consumer behaviors.

Our conversation explores the role of advertising in Nepal and how Indian advertising has influenced the industry there. Ujaya says talent – the finding and retaining of it – is a major challenge most advertising companies and heads grapple with. He also mentions reputation management in the advertising sector as a critical area for business heads, and emphasizes the importance of creativity, passion and teamwork for young professionals entering the field.

He also touches upon the regulation of advertising in Nepal, including the clean feed policy that restricts foreign advertising on Nepalese channels. Ujaya reflects on the impact of social media platforms, internet penetration, and the evolving technology in the advertising space in Nepal.

Ujaya speaks about the qualities required for success in advertising, and shares his admiration for, and the inspiration he draws from, industry stalwarts like Sam Balsara, Ramesh Menon, and Piyush Pandey, and the importance of collaboration between Indian and Nepali advertising industries for mutual growth.

So, thanks to my distinguished guest Ujaya Shakya, Founder of Outreach in Nepal and author of Brandsutra, and the first vice president of the Advertising Association of Nepal, this, the 116th episode of our award-winning MVP The Master’s Voice Podcast -- and, of late, Vodcast too, on YouTube -- provides a comprehensive view of the advertising landscape in Nepal and the efforts being made to empower the industry through regulatory measures, talent development, and innovative strategies. And more. I hope you find it a rewarding listen. Thank you for your time!
