  • Pushing Back Against AMA's Support for APRN Oversight by Medical Boards
    Jul 31 2023

In the latest edition of the show, Gideon attempts to rally the nursing community to mount a cohesive response against the American Medical Association's call for greater oversight over nonphysician providers, such as nurse practitioners and physician assistants. The Nursing community must fight for respect and recognition as KEY stakeholders in healthcare.  Current ANA's President Dr. Jennifer Mensik-Kennedy insisting that “At the end of the day, the licensing and regulation of APRNs do not and have never required the oversight of state medical boards. U.S. nursing regulatory bodies have the authority and oversight because they understand the practice and principles of nursing to ensure that competent nursing care is provided by licensed nurses."

  • What’s in a Title? A Call to Retire the title Mid-Level in Healthcare
    Jul 17 2023

On this episode, Gideon makes an appeal for the retirement of the title "Midlevel." The words we choose and the language we use have the power to move the people and the world around us. Words represent beliefs, morals, prejudices, and principles—sometimes in ways that shape an audience's perceptions.  The nursing community must insist on the proper title for a nurse practitioner and must persist in this fight to make change permanent. Take a listen and share your thoughts.
