  • Power Moms - Disrupt and Never Settle for Less, with Jennifer Frye of Appreciated Asset
    Jun 6 2024

To use her own words, Jennifer Frye is “a single mom, a CEO, and a badass.” And, I can tell you, having known this woman for 20-plus years, that all of the above is true. We first met following our Junior years in college. We were both studying business at Tulane University’s A. B. Freeman School of Business and met through their summer study abroad program in Europe… back in the year 2000.

She and I now are both single moms and solo entrepreneurs; and we connect a lot in this conversation about how that feeling of “no wiggle room to screw up” with parenting translates into building a business by yourself. Not only do we dig into her path to betting on herself and owning her own company, but also into overcoming the fear of being alone–period. The silver lining flipside of that path is being in control of your own trajectory, as Jen says. So, listen in and consider whether or not you should venture on your own in working toward your goals. And, at the end, we share the story of how Jen saved my life–literally. She saved my life. And, that was my early clue that this woman would be fearless and grow to be a Power Mom!! Listen in…

  • We Go Boldly - How to Find a Therapist
    May 22 2024

On We Go Boldly today we are talking therapy and women's mental health. Finding a therapist who meets your needs can significantly improve your mental health and overall well-being. When searching for a therapist, it’s essential to consider your specific requirements, such as expertise in women's health. Start by identifying what type of therapy might be most beneficial for you. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, and mindfulness-based therapy are among the many approaches available. Utilize online directories and databases such as Psychology Today or TherapyTribe to filter therapists based on your preferences, including their specialization in women's health issues.

Another critical step in finding a therapist is to seek recommendations from trusted sources. Friends, family members, or healthcare providers can offer valuable referrals. Additionally, many communities have local mental health organizations or women's health clinics that provide resources and referrals. When you contact potential therapists, inquire about their experience with issues related to women's health (if appropriate), such as postpartum depression, menopause, or trauma recovery. This way the therapist has the relevant expertise to understand and address your unique concerns effectively.

Lastly, it is important to consider logistical factors when selecting a therapist. Check their availability, location, and whether they offer virtual sessions, which can be particularly convenient for busy women balancing multiple responsibilities. Verify if they accept your insurance or if they have a sliding scale fee structure to accommodate different financial situations. Remember, finding the right therapist might take time, but prioritizing your mental health and well-being is worth the effort. By following these steps, you can find a qualified therapist who specializes in women's health and supports you on your journey to improved mental wellness.

    GO BOLDLY HOMEWORK:

    1. Take the time now, before you need one, to find out how your insurance supports your mental health. Is there a specific service you must use? Take the steps you need to now in order to get everything lined up and ready to go so when the time comes that you need therapy you are ready.
