The recent figures out in November 2022 show that the numbers have dropped to 97 per 1,00,000 live births. States like Kerala have come down to less than 30 per 1,00,000 live births, while the southern states are going strong, there are still states like Assam where the MMR is close to 200. Welcome to episode 7 Season 2 of the healthcare India Podcast today we take a trip back in history to talk about Jeevika, the ‘Physician King’ born in Rajgir in the 5th century BCE, Jeevika rose to become the physician of King Bimbisara of Magadha and had Gautam Buddha as one of his patients. In a recent study involving 65000 subjects in Bangalore, the percentage of diabetics, as well as pre-diabetic, significantly went up. The study was conducted by Neuberg Diagnostics. In episode 3, Season 2 of the Healthcare India Podcast, I look at two topics. One is the Global Hunger Index that ranks India at 107. This ranking is done on 4 parameters

1) Child Wasting

2) Child Stunting

3) Under 5 Mortality

4) Undernourishment

The rankings were met with their usual skepticism by the Indian government and rightfully so.
