Good comparison between healthy meal and otherwise

This episode of two of Gutfull podcast is very well compared and contrasted between a healthy meal and not so healthy meal. Since I already listened to a few chapters of the auido book Gut by Giulia Enders, this was more of a good snapshot of otherwise long elaboration of gut process which is helpful.

However, Dr. Joanna's strong advocacy of breads such as sourdough breads, continues from episode one, implying they have good protein content, irrespective of the quality of protein which I am not sure of. And Dr. Joanna mentioned in episode one how the corn used to prepare package snack is ultra-processed so I wonder, how is any flour including the flour used to prepare sourdough bread is not ultra-processed given most flours, especially wheat flours, are enriched meaning their nutrients have been stripped off during the flour making process and then nutrients have been added back artificially/synthetically to meet the food industry guidelines. While it may have whatsoever quality protein, is that not suppose to affect the health specially gut health in not so great ways since the flour is nothing like what it originates from like whole wheat for example (or corn processed into corn flour as Dr. Joanna mentions in episode one). Personally, I find this piece of advice conflicting. Also, am not sure of microwaving veggies though Dr. Joanna thinks it is fine.

And, finally, I agree with Dr. Joanna in entirety that the whole fruits are better than the fruit juices or the soft drinks. Overall, it was an decent audio podcast episode except the above mentioned part.

Intriguing and fun to listen

The delivery is nice and the use of two different meals to illustrate how they will be handled by our digestive system is very interesting. It’s good to know which food is good and why.

Very educational - worth the listen!

This was an excellent Podcast to listen to if you have any questions or issues regarding nutrition or Digestion. The episodes were each short enough to listen to on a normal daily commute. The content reinforced issues I already knew and provided additional information on Common digestive problems.

Steeped in diet culture

I’m a bit disappointed at the level of food judgment in this podcast. I am very very interested in maximizing gut health and eating a more diverse diet to do so. Unfortunately this comes off as overly prescriptive and mostly like a diet lecture so far—talking about strategies for avoiding hunger longer, recommending specific amounts of per day and week. This is possibly not something that a person recovering from disordered eating should listen to because it seems like it’s opening the doors to those behaviors with more food counting to obsess over. Perhaps a gut health podcast sprinkled with intuitive eating is too much to ask for, but it seems possible.
