Publisher's Summary

Gone Girl meets Fatal Attraction in Caroline Kepnes' You, a chilling account of the twisted psychology behind unrelenting passion, from the author of Hidden Bodies and the upcoming Providence, publishing June 2018.

When aspiring writer Guinevere Beck strides into the bookstore where Joe works, he is instantly smitten. Beck is everything Joe has ever wanted: tough, razor-smart, and sexier than his wildest dreams. He'd kill to have her.

Soon Beck can't resist her feelings for a guy who seems custom made for her. When a string of macabre incidents tears her world apart, there is only one person she can turn to. But there's more to Joe than Beck realizes and much more to Beck than her perfect facade. The obsessive relationship quickly spirals into a whirlwind of deadly consequences....

A chilling account of unrelenting, terrifying deceit, Caroline Kepnes' You is a thriller more perversely clever and dangerously twisted than any you have ever listened to.

This unabridged audio version is read by Santino Fontana.

Absolutely loved the portrayal of obssession

What made the experience of listening to You the most enjoyable?

I love how the story was able to rationalize the creepiness of the whole affair. I loved and hated and felt everything.

What was one of the most memorable moments of You?

I honestly can't describe it without spoilers. And I wouldn't want to do that to you.

Which character – as performed by Santino Fontana – was your favorite?

Joe, of course. He perfectly conveyed the insanity cloaked by a veneer of normality.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed right out loud in many (many) places, visibly cringed in others.

Any additional comments?

Some of the content was a little too explicit for me. Overall though, I love the pace and sense of humor that fills the book.

Not quite as good as the hype

I'm in a minority here. I dislike the story as i expected the book to be as good as gone girl but gone girl is 100 times better than this. I dont mind the writing style, it's more on the story itself.

I just about got to the end but it was very boring, I was waiting for it to gear up and it just didn’t - disappointing

Oh yuck!

Now I have absolutely no objection to a charismatic psychopath (as long as they are not in the same room as me) but this character is so full of glib and smart alec observations that I wanted to cover my ears and scream. On top of that, the narrator has the sort of smug American accent which I find a complete turn off. From this I'm sure you can easily glean that this was not to my taste!

Poorly written & unimaginative

I really didn’t enjoy this book! I rarely write a review but I felt I had to tell people not to waste their time!
The writing was dull and the storyline unimaginative. I like a thriller/crime book to leave me guessing or with a feeling of ‘I didn’t see that coming!’
I couldn’t wait for this to end!

strange and boring

Much too long for the simple and uninteresting story. Was obvious from the beginning how it would end.

Dark story of obsession.

Wasn’t sure about this book when I started listening but quickly got hooked. Written in the first person which made it more effective. I couldn’t see the ending , changing my mind several times as I listened. Lots of sex and swearing so don’t listen if you get offended. Highly recommended.

So predictable and so mundane. Honestly can’t remember reading anything as boring as this book. Please don’t waste your time.

Santino Fontana nailed this!!

What did you like most about You?

You by Caroline Kepnes (Audible Edition)
5 stars!!

I have listened to many, many audible books but have never felt compelled to write a review for one. Usually my audibles are books I have already physically read, but with You, it was a recommendation that I couldn’t squeeze into my blog reading schedule, so I bought the audible instead.

I have to say, this is THE BEST audible I have ever listened to. Santino Fontana narrated the s**t out of this book, his voice was perfect, his perfectly timed intonations brought the character to life, he was one with Joe. Comedic timing was spot on, that dark, creepy timbre was mesmerising as well as alluring and shiver inducing and I actually believed that Caroline Kepnes’s Joe Goldberg was at the other end of the mic when this book was made. This book turned into a reality thanks to Santino Fontana, a twisty, dark, reality of Joe, the seemingly innocuous book store manager.

For those that have not read You, Joe Goldberg works in a little book store and Caroline Kepnes takes no time in letting you know that Joe is a few sandwiches short of a picnic. Joe, for all intents and purposes is a stalker and right from the very beginning we are witness to him finding his next target. From the initial first glance, to the credit card receipt, to stalking on social media, hacking and firmly planting himself in her life. Joe is intense, calculating, extremely clever and a master manipulator but the way in which Caroline Kepnes keeps you in Joe’s head for the entire book actually makes you love him, well I did and with that added voice of Santino Fontana, Joe became real. Nothing and no-one will come between Joe and Becks and god help you if you try. This is beyond infatuation, but the clever and calculating way that this story is delivered only makes you want to know more.

Joe is a character you should hate, heck, I would never want to come across him, but as an outsider being privy to his thoughts and actions I found him fascinating. So many witty one liners that had me laughing out loud even though I should have been cringing. His nonchalance, his inherent belief in himself and what he Is doing is normal, the extents to which he goes to beggars belief, yet I still loved him.

As this book progressed, my little snippets of Joe in the car on school runs was never enough and I found myself listening when I should have been reading other books, those last three hours, I was captivated, I just carried on listening till the end. I already have downloaded book two and that is primed and ready to go and I cannot wait to reconnect with Joe. I have questions I want answers to, so what will Joe get up to next? I will keep you abreast.

Stunning audio book and just goes to show what happens when the voice nails the character. This was more than a narration, Santino Fontana did his homework, he voiced his arse off, and it paid off.

Great Listening!

If you could sum up You in three words, what would they be?

Couldn't put down!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Joe...dangerous with a wicked humour - a serial killer who you end up rooting for!

What does Santino Fontana bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

He brings Joe to life. Great narration, you can 'feel' Joe's emotions.

Any additional comments?

Well written, dark humour and a serial killer similar to 'Dexter.' Quite a few sex scenes - so if you are easily offended - don't buy. However, you will be missing a cracking story! Follow it up with 'Hidden Bodies.'

Good listen

I enjoyed the story and didn't mind the narrator's voice. I downloaded it because of the twist that was supposed to be unbelievable and you won't see that coming. It was a bit obvious for me but was still an interesting story. Would watch it if it was made into a film. Would read other books by this author.

Incredible

In the same vein of American Phsyco, this book was pretty much flawless. The only thing that made it better was the narrator. 10/10 experience

A little lacking

The story is certainly interesting in delving into the mind of an obsessed man, but I expected more darkness and less melodrama so it was ultimately disappointing. The voice actor was fantastic though!

A modern take of The Collector, sadistic but a bit one note

An interesting tale, as told from the side of a deranged stalker who’s obsession leads to ungodly consequences for all in his path.

It isn’t the most original tale, and often it all comes across too easy for the protagonist - but his obsession comes across at times truly deranged, sometimes funny.

The voice work though A+

Absolutely terrible

This is the first time I've ever written a review of an audiobook. I could not sit by and let any other unsuspecting people download this drivel. It is truly terrible in all three categories. You've been warned.
