Publisher's Summary

Welcome to Isla Bruja, a secret magical enclave near Miami and home to the richest and most powerful Latinx witch families.

When Catalina Cartagena returns home for her older sister’s wedding, she’s shocked to discover that her soon-to-be brother in law is possessed by a demon. To make matters worse, everyone else seems to be under the demon's spell - except for Diego Paz, younger brother of the groom and Cat’s childhood rival.

With only three days until the wedding, Cat must join forces with her sexy nemesis to break the spell and defeat the demon. If they fail, demonic forces will control two of the most powerful witch families on Isla Bruja.

There’s only one bed at the magical B&B, and it’s time for these witches to get wicked...in more ways than one.

Despite First Impressions It Is Not YA

I assumed this audiobook would be silly, YA fun and 85% of it was. The f-bomb and sex scenes made this a strange book - certainly not what I expected and may miss the mark for other groups, too.

Great narration but ok storyline

The book is cute and I know it’s not meant to be a serious read, but it was a little silly and didn’t always set up the world to make someone who isn’t that into witches to follow.

The narrator did a good job and it’s short, but it still very much felt like a culture of white latine/latinx folk using black latine/latinx culture and people as their backdrop and prop(please stop using Celia Cruz for this stuff!).

I enjoyed but it will be a hit or miss depending on whether you like witches.

Too short

The narration was excellent as the storyline seemed very interesting. It was just too short. I need more backstory, more slowly building the romance, just more. I would definitely give the author and narrator another chance.

Brujas power!

This was such a fun and entertaining novella! the story telling had me on the edge and laughing out loud like a crazy person. The character's were charming and relatable to any big latino family. I also loved how the whole narration was done in Spaglish.

Short, cute, sexy and WITCHES!!

A cute and quick listen for Audible original.
It’s pretty much a novella, audio style. Quick and sweet and to the point.
This story takes place on a fictional island near Miami during the festivities of a family wedding. Two witches (which happen to be old high school rivals) have to work together to take down a member of the wedding party that happens to be possessed. What happens when the rivals uncover a few secrets of the past AND they accomplish what they set out to??

For a short story, this was fun and quickly paced. There is a little development of the families and the relationship between the witches, but the dynamic between the two is quite spicy and I would've loved more of them. I wish we had more of the family, but for the length of the story, I think the short story accomplished what it set out to do.
The narrator was FANTASTIC. She had a wonderful accent for both the male and female characters and kept the story interesting with her fluctuation of her narration.
Wish the book/audio was longer so we’d get more character development but that’s to be expected with a novella. Overall, fun and spicy and would love to see more in this world.

Loved every second!!

I’m amaze how such a short story was so complete, sometimes this tiny stories feel rushed or incomplete but not this one! The enemies-to-lovers of the protagonists did not seem rush or out of the blue. You feel the growth and full circle-ness of the main protagonist. The author created an amazing story with great characters. Loved all the Latinx references boricua power 🇵🇷 !!

Magical

Love everything about this! The narrator was amazing! I loved the voices and the thought she put into the characters. This is my first book from Alexis Daria and i must say, from now on she will be an auto buy/listen. I just added her other work to my read/listen list. I hope the author and narrator will continue to work together on these amazing stories because the combination is magical! So glad i have this audible subscription, because it’s exclusive to audible!

Way too short

It a too short audiobook and because it’s to short the story becomes ways too shallow and a bit uninteresting.
You never connect with the main characters and because of that it seems too forced when they start having sex after having been enemies for all their lives and just have meet again and started working together to save their families from the demons.
Make longer stories instead of this kind of wasted audiobooks

Scrumptious

I so enjoyed this novella. It was sassy and seet with added magic. Kat and Diego were great characters as they shared a childhood background so the story of them being together works well on all levels.

A bit too short for me

Kat and Diego are great characters from a shared childhood background. Kat was competitive against Diego who just wanted Kats love. From this reunion from years apart, the sparks begin. The magic powers uncover a hidden dark force, but together they work out how to make things right. I could have enjoyed more with a bit more storyline.

A great short story

It took be a chapter or two before I got into this but once I did I really enjoyed it. It has a bit everything a little mystery, a little romance and a little giggle every now and then. It was refreshing to have a narrator who could correctly pronounce the names and places and use the correct accent, far too many good books have been ruined by the narrator not being able to correctly pronounce words of accents. Alexis Daria is a new author for me but I will definitely look out for more of her

Cute and fun

This was a cute, short and fun latinx story. I would love for this to expand more into the world of Catarina and her family. There’s so much potential for witch history of the island, the people there and just other fun plots.

I loved the casting of the spells as it pertained to actual witchcraft. Would have loved to see more development, but I guess only so much can be covered in a novella. It was light and easy. The narrator did a good job.

Witty, Adventurous and Totally Engaging

The vocal talent of Jacqueline Lopez was perfect for this story. Every pronunciation, exclamation and detail was caught beautifully.
The story itself was 100% engaging from start to finish. I was worried that such a short story might be underwhelming, but I need not have been concerned.
Diago and Cat are the perfect duo and their chemistry is instantly noticeable. Their adventure to save the day is full of great humour, a potent back story and an exciting range or supporting characters.
I loved this book and will be saving it in my favourites to return to again in the future.
