Pulled through a portal and into an ancient world of danger, survival is Nick’s only option.

When Nick Barnette is pulled through a mysterious portal into the Kingdom of Lhasa, his life becomes a fight for survival. Separated from his friends and hunted by powerful forces, Nick discovers he’s been gifted a strange ability—the power to slow time. But mastering it is no simple task, and to stand a chance of reuniting with his friends and returning home, he must walk the ancient Way of the Immortals.

His journey will push him to the brink. From perilous mountains and frozen peaks to treacherous seas and mystical islands, Nick battles sea dragons, flaming skulls, and demons, all while uncovering the secrets of his power and the deep truths of Lhasa’s ancient traditions.

For the first time, experience this epic wuxia-inspired portal fantasy in its entirety, featuring all four books, including the never-before-released finale. Infused with Bhutanese and Tibetan-lore, packed with breathtaking battles, unforgettable characters, and heart-pounding stakes, this fast-paced progression fantasy is perfect for fans of xianxia, wuxia, isekai, LitRPG and cultivation stories.

Will Nick master the Way of the Immortals and find his way home—or will the forces of Lhasa consume him first?

It was a solid book all the way around. the world building was was unique and interesting. I really liked that the cultivation part wasn't long and drawn out, the breakthroughs didn't take 30 mins each

Harmon Cooper changed direction on this series from him more recognized harem fantasy sub-genre. I found the first 2 books in the series at a 5 star level and book 3 and 4 at a 3 star level. While there were cultivation elements to in the series, it was somewhat superficial that made it a stretch to classify it as such. The MC was much more realistic as a normal person being exposed to magic. He was overwhelmed at first and only after surviving several deadly encounters had he become more aware and in tune with his abilities, however, even then, he never reached a level that was close to being OP.

His bird sidekick, Roger, provided genuine comic relief in the beginning but after Book 1 his antics became less and less humorous and more and more banal and distracting. His 4 other Earth companions were integral to the story but never in a dominant way. The ending seemed a bit rushed, ridiculous in ways and the ending battle was a let down.

Neil Hellegers' narrative performance was very good and it alone kept me listening to the very end.

Good for a road trip

This book series was not as funny as some of Harmon Cooper's books, but it was still compelling. I loved that Nick was able to reconnect with some of his friends and found out that they all have certain powers. I enjoyed the back of the book, which gave insight into his writing process for this book and others.

A prophesized return
