January 2043. The Vogthar Horde has come, and they bring real death with them. Not even players are safe from the power of Malware Blades....

Worse, the Realm of Order, dominion of the Overmind Sophia, is in danger - slowly being corrupted by an ancient evil, the Lich Priest. And if he is successful, it could mean the end of Sophia and the downfall of the Crimson Alliance.

Overall Good

For the most part this is a good story. I enjoyed the humanizing of Ozmark, and there's a lot of adventure, new powers, and intrigue. The only things keeping me from giving this a 5 star rating were the grammar errors that kept pulling me out of immersion.

They typically consisted of tense shifting, and missing words (usually were or was), but there were also cases of applying singular forms of nouns to sentences where they should be plural. This kind of thing yanked me out of the story and had me focusing more on the actual words than the meaning and story they were meant to convey.

Hunter hits another Homeric homerun!!!

James Hunter has swiftly become a favorite author of mine, he knows how to craft a tale, imagine interesting characters, and pace a plot like he was driving for NASCAR. VGO has quickly blossomed into a cherished series, and each book builds on the last like a giant layer cake (so sweet and filling)! The Lich Priest is (so far) the diamond of the series. The Vogthar horde is coming with their malware blades, and Grimjack is forced to team up with his arch nemesis to save Sophia. The writing is as fresh and exciting as the first book, and the tensions mount as the danger climbs. Hunter is really putting the pressure on our heroes. The question is, can they stop the Lich Priest, Save Sophia, break their curse (yeah, forgot to mention that), and get back to the important stuff like stopping Thanatos and co. from obliterating VGO? I'm not going to say. Read the book!!

Next, I have to say that Hunter has really been pulling out all the stops on his covers for VGO. Each one is amazing, and they progressively up the ante for the next one. These are slick, professional, and real works of art. They grab your eye, twist your neck, and make you pick up the book before you know what is happening. Two thumbs way up for the cover to LP, it looks incredible. I'd just like maybe Cutter or Abbey pictured once in a while; maybe next cover?

Armen Taylor pilots this tale like he was flying a Republic P-47D Thunderbolt, he zips, dips, and strafes at all the right moments. The yonly thing I have yet to comment upon in his narration is his "Whisper Yell", where he imitates yelling by speaking softly and dragging his words out. It always makes me laugh a little, because it reminds me of when I was a kid and we'd do that while playing with each other. His narration is on point, and he really has the characters down to a science from Cutter, my fave voice, to the Artificer and Grimjack. You recognize them all immediately; which adds lot of extras to the tale. He carries the story along almost as if he were making it up on the spot.

Hunter has a real Homeric character in GrimJack. He is doomed to fight, and almost never see home. He is always fighting for others, and struggles to maintain his selflessness against the odds. You will really love all the characters he has created, and if you are looking to get into a new series this is indeed the place to go, but not the place to start. There are four other books you will not want to miss, so get them and then come back to the Lich Priest. It'll be here, but you'll be sorry you had to wait. Don't miss out on an amazing book! Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and honestly, inspired me to be more honest. In fact, getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review.

Love it!

Love this book and the whole series. If I had a single complaint it’d be that the author over uses phrases such as “had to be” “like crepe paper” “like a force of nature” for example.

A wonderfully crafted Lir RPG/fantasy

My second read/listen from author J.A. Hunter was again a wonderfully crafted Lir RPG/fantasy. I received an Audible copy of Viridian Gate Online 5 and wanted to see what it was all about & since I owned the first book I read it first, as good as it was this book was even better, although I missed a lot going from book 1 to book 5. Someday I'll have to read & review books #2, #3 & #4. Narrator Armen Taylor added greatly to my enjoyment of the tale.

Looking forward to the next volume!

I just finished this and am excited to see if the next book will be another from the Artificer's point of view.

The best VGO yet

This is a great audio and I was impressed with how they tied it into the past events and also gave Osmark a different outlook.
This fits in with his new personal series which starts with articifer and makes the future not bright but perhaps a little less bleak.
Narration is outstanding from Armen as always and I can't wait for the next audio to come out.

A great performance of a great story

This story seemed more of a side quest rather than a continuation of the main story line (or main quest). A highly significant and major side quest.
It also blurs some of the previously well-defined lines between the good guys and the bad guys leaving you with a much more realistic shades-of-grey view of the VGO world.
The performance is enjoyable with distinctive and, at times, amusing voices for all the characters and “system messages”.
Highly recommended
