After committing a crime in order to save his mother's life, he was arrested and included in the Inmate Player Program. Even without perception filters to limit his pain, it was better than the alternative. He has the opportunity to earn more money in a five-year sentence then he could have in his entire life as a hospital janitor.

Parts of this book are the best in the series
We finally get to the meet the earth avatar with their ability to time travel to previous save points in the game. Tons of forward plot movement in overall storyline and a satisfying ending. I'm finding any storyline with a large focus on the gods of the game tends to lead to the best scenes and lines. Not really a spoiler, but we finally get a full backstory and understanding of the gods from both an in game and out of game perspective. Well done!

Wow!
Ok the time stuff was a little hard to follow at times but the writing and character development continues to get better and better. Can’t wait for the next chapter in the story. Also glad he combined the two stories into one. I think both stories benefited.

Inconsistent canon
Pros:
Still fun, some good mayhem.
Cons:
Not a Jason story. The focus was on Cady’s POV and it wasn’t enjoyable.
This story seems to create a ton of canon plot holes with previous books that are not explained away by the time travel alteration. Mutiple important changes that really alter the story.
The first 8 hours of the book are idiot plot, arguing, and a refusal to communicate.
It’s a time travel story and not a closed loop, so nothing matters.
