It is leveling out.

Through the many books they have been leading up to the creatures being released. It is finally time. I have read my fellows reviews and agree with most, but there are some points I would like to argue.

Some say this book may be a filler book and doesnt contain anything important, this is untrue. There are maybe 6 different plot points that are valuable in this book that would be sorely missed if skipped over.

There are intense fights and astonishing breakthroughs in tech and gear. There was even one portion that tugged at my heart strings even more than the other books. I will avoid spoiling while simply urging you to continue through these books.

If I had to list cons, I would start with the repetition. From the words used, to the overarching theme of "the monsters are coming", to the annoying reiteration of an entire character sheet 2 minutes after it had just been read even though only two minor things had changed.

Possible Minor Spoiler Alert : Another con would be the leveling system. It has gone haywire and I can tell the author didn't plan this far ahead. Levels of monsters reach past 1000 and is a totally incapable of accurately measuring power. There are hidden masters ranging from levels 600 to 1500. This makes me to wonder why everyone was freaking out about Boran Al's Citadel which hand maybe a dozen level 130's. Looking back it seems silly that a master wasn't sent in to wipe the floor with them.

With Dave being only around level 200, but having a technical stat power level of 1000, this is all getting a bit much.

End Spoiler

Some other things I miss are the stat gains from physical exertion, which is understandable, the affinity charts are no longer listed, and skills no longer level up, and no new skills are found or worked on.

The voice actor, while having a large repertoire of voices, has a habit in the way he talks leaving the words old and overused.

TL;DR : This book focuses on build up, leaving much to be desired. It could be a lot better, but it sure could be a hell of a lot worse too. There are still things you dont want to miss.

To much detail.

I found a battle scenes overly descriptive and very boring sometimes. This is a good series like rest of the books and kept me interested.

Every characters the same

Narrator was awesome. Story not so much. Imagine all dialogue structured as above. It would be fine if only a character or two abandoned pronouns but pretty much every character, almost every sentance gets old really fast and makes them all sound the same. This becomes very frustrating as the story spends a tremendous amount of time on support characters making it very hard to remember who is who and who's doing what. Kudos to the narrator for doing a bang up job.

This one felt like filler. I'll try number 8 but if it's as bad as 7 that'll be it

Jumping off the Cliff

The series started out great but slowly going down hill and now its jumped off a freaking cliff. It's turning into a Bleach Anime with villain battles going on forever. Like some authors they start tossing kids in the mix and everyone is having kids. To me, that is a HUGE like jump the shark in the story line. Then that will just lead to the antagonists kid napping kids or something else and the MC goes nuts or something predictable. The characters are all scattered brain in this and not really prioritizing major threats to the world, they wanted to be the number 1 raiding guild and they got it, they wanted to corner the market and they did. Now they are sitting back doing minor missions while these major powers start to slaughter hundreds of thousands of people for power.

Waaaaaay to many side things going on and NOT enough focus on Dave, you know, the main character back in book 1. I am on the cusp of returning this to Audible, that is how upset I am will this one.

Better but still repetitive

Now that they are finally facing foes that they don't painfully outmatch, the filler which is the endless combat is a bit better. It is however still too repetitive to be an enjoyable listen to. The entire book is full of repetitive lines which makes it exhausting to listen to but the fights are the best example. With one short combat sequence describing the protagonist as a 'goddess of war' three times in nearly as many sentences.

If the author would just cut out the repetitive segments, he would probably cut out 6 hours of writing. That is not good.

Love the overall story.

I started this story waaayyyy back when book 1 dropped and fell in love. so much so that I ignored the series until at least 5 books came out so I could binge them in one go. Then 6,7,and 8 came put amd did not disappoint.

Good book

Pro:
Really great performance by the narrator.
Another good laid out litrpg to the series.

Con:
Takes away from the main group or character. By putting emphasis on other characters... I really enjoyed party zero and Dave more than the other guild...

If only.

Truly and epic story line and very well presented characters but the blandness of the writing is styfeling this stories ability to be a hall mark piece of literature. The grows overuse of the same basic conguncturs is the most glaring problem. It physically hurts me to hear the word "as" used twice in the same sentence and that sin happens. A. Lot. The same issue, more or less continues with using the exact same noun multiple times in the same sentence, or adjectives, or pronouns, all of it. Proper, flavorful and diverse literary expressions and sentence structure would truly take this series to the next level and stop hurting me while I listen to every chapter I can get my hands on.
