Publisher's Summary

Book three in the gripping romantic-suspense series from USA Today best-selling author Colleen Coble

A chilling murder.

Chief of Police Jane Hardy plunges into the investigation of a house fire that claimed the life of a local woman as well as one of the firefighters. It’s clear the woman was murdered. But why? The unraveling of Jane’s personal life only makes the answers in the case more difficult to find.

Her son’s arrest.

Then Jane’s 15-year-old son is accused of a horrific crime, and she has to decide whether or not she can trust her ex, Reid, in the attempt to prove Will’s innocence - and whether she can trust Reid with her heart.

Her stolen memories.

Three days of Jane’s past are missing from her memory, and that’s not all that has been stolen from her. As she works to find the woman’s murdered and clear her son’s name, finding out what happened in those three days could change everything.

It all started with one little lie. But the gripping truth is finally coming out.

Unexpected religious inundation

I really enjoyed the first two books and understood the story from the standpoint of having escaped a religious cult. However, this is the first book where the religion feels overdone and quite forced. I’m a life long Christian and was quickly bored by the constant religious message in the book. Previous books were more subtle and well written so they fit well. I can definitely see this being unattractive for many readers and may put them off from this book in the series.

Great suspense! Great final installment to the series!

Loved every page! :-) So glad Reid, Jane, and Will finally got their happy ending. I also enjoyed the author’s note at the end and appreciated the different ways Coble left the side character relationships.

Great suspense. Great narration. And I REALLY want a beignet!

Disappointing

This book seemed pretty unbelievable at times. Swimming in the rip tides to get to Gabriel just seemed ridiculous. It was disappointing after reading the others in this series. The ending was also ridiculous. Why all of a sudden is she pregnant at the end when earlier in the book she is talking about them being so careful to not get too passions before marriage? It just seemed thrown in there all of a sudden.

Great story, weak characters

I love the Christian undertones, and the suspense was good, but the characters are not well-written. The tough cop was wimpy and whiny, and the male lead was a mindless sidekick. The villain was completely unbelievable, and I was disappointed at the reveal. The romance could have been one book, with the two main characters acting as a team for the other two.
