Publisher's summary

In this USA Today best-selling romantic suspense, Claire’s visit to a luxury hotel in Maine awakens repressed memories that undermine all she holds dear.

In 1989, Claire Dellamare disappeared from her own fourth birthday party at the Hotel Tourmaline on the island of Folly Shoals, Maine. She showed up a year later at the same hotel, with a note pinned to her dress but no explanation. Nobody knows where Claire spent that year - and until now, Claire didn’t even know she had ever been missing.

But when Claire returns to the Hotel Tourmaline for a business meeting with her CEO father, disturbing memories begin to surface...despite her parents’ best efforts to keep them forgotten.

Luke Rocco lost his mother under equally mysterious circumstances - at the same time Claire disappeared. After a chance encounter reveals the unlikely link between them, Claire and Luke set out together to uncover the truth about what happened that fateful year.

With flashbacks swimming just beneath her consciousness and a murderer threatening her safety, Claire’s very life depends on unscrambling her past...even if her family refuses to acknowledge it. Someone - maybe everyone - is hiding something from Claire Dellamare, and it will cost her everything to drag the truth out into the light.

“Evocative and gripping, The Inn at Ocean’s Edge will keep you flipping pages long into the night.” (Dani Pettrey, best-selling author of the Alaskan Courage series)

“I burned through The Inn at Ocean’s Edge in one sitting.... Colleen Coble has done it again with this gripping opening to a new series. I can’t wait to spend more time in Sunset Cove.” (Heather Burch, best-selling author of One Lavender Ribbon)

“Coble truly shines when she’s penning a mystery, and this tale will really keep the reader guessing.... Mystery lovers will definitely want to put this book on their purchase list.” (RT Book Reviews)

Disappointing

******SPOILER ALERT******
I hate to leave spoilers but there’s no way around it. Omgosh, I can’t believe so many people raved over this. It started out 5 Stars but didn’t take long to go down. It gave me more stress than I already had in real life because the whole book was how no one would give any answers to the same conversation over and over. It was like Groundhog Day movie over and over. And to try and change the subject, the characters would say, ‘want some ice tea?’ I really had a hard time with how the sheriff treated the whole case and was so condemning towards Claire. And he didn’t investigate like he should’ve. This has got to be one of the most poorly written books, I can’t believe people like it. No cop does their job so poorly. And in the end, we didn’t hear or see the sheriff any more. The characters were so poorly developed and the writing choppy. Nothing they did or said makes sense. And I don’t think there are orcas on the east coast.

If you’re listening to the audio version, the narrator tells it in a sing song voice sounding like she’s reading to a child. During some parts she’s really good but most times it’s saccharine sweet. Giving the listener the feeing of being ignorant.

OUTSTANDING

One of the best I've read. The plot kept me hanging on to the very end. Refreshing to have a story that was both clean and yet enticing; good morals and yet very true to life. Will definitely read more by this author.

Worst book I've ever read

Would you try another book from Colleen Coble and/or Devon O'Day?

No

Would you ever listen to anything by Colleen Coble again?

No

Any additional comments?

Books like this are the reason I stopped reading fiction. The characters were not well developed, the story line was predictable--from the very beginning two characters with missing parent issues and one of them has a disease needing a transplant match so obviously they are going to end up being twins. It was also unrealistic to the point of not being able to relate to the story or the characters: the main character was the victim of an attack or abduction no less than three times and witnessed two murders during the course of the story. No, no, no, no. I didn't care about any of the characters and if I read another story like this again any time soon, fiction will be back on the shelf for me.

What a stunning story

Hi Colleen, you wrote a beautiful story with so many twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat! The scriptural truths in the story were beautifully woven in and really ministered to me. Love is indeed the cement that holds us together, and God is indeed Love, not just loves us, but He IS Love! Thank you for the lovely story, may God bless you with many more! Love Anthea

These are not characters I care about

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

The book is full of one-dimensional characters that do not interest me. Halfway through the book I found I just didn't care how the book ended.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Narration can not make unrealistic characters interesting.

This is a fresh story...

Expecting more of the Seagrass gang, I was happily surprised with a whole new story line. I greatly enjoyed this one, thank you Colleen, hope there are more from Luke, Claire and Kate!
