Publisher's Summary

In Alex's many years of intense Zen training, he went from starting as a fledgling monk who was assigned basic tasks to a leader entrusted to run the monastery's small business, guide individuals, facilitate workshops and retreats and create curriculum on transformational inner development.

The Zen Life is a collection of writings based upon Alex's personal monastic and coaching experiences and is an attempt to bridge the gap between timeless teachings and their modern day applications in the world.

superb!

Alex is a generous, compassionate teacher and hearing the wise words of his newest book, The Zen Life, feels like having him next to you. His guidance is clear, concise, and exquisitely practical, in a way that is unusual for this material. His examples of the thoughts and behaviors that keep us down is so spot on that I felt like he had been looking over my shoulder. The parallels between the lessons at the monastery and the learnings as a householder speak to all those on the journey to awakening. And his suggested practices are the right combination of simple and powerful.

I strongly recommend using this book as a guide, referring to it often. The ‘voices in your head’ might not like it, but the rest of your life will improve.

Not what I expected

I expected more than anecdotes and stuff that I might be feeling. Disappointed with purchase.
