Publisher's Summary
Are you truly in danger or has your brain simply "tricked" you into thinking you are? In The Worry Trick, psychologist and anxiety expert David Carbonell shows how anxiety hijacks the brain and offers effective techniques to help you break the cycle of worry, once and for all.
Anxiety is a powerful force. It makes us question ourselves and our decisions, causes us to worry about the future, and fills our days with dread and emotional turbulence. Based in acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), this audiobook is designed to help you break the cycle of worry.
Worry convinces us there's danger, and then tricks us into getting into fight, flight, or freeze mode - even when there is no danger. The techniques in this audiobook, rather than encouraging you to avoid or try to resist anxiety, show you how to see the trick that underlies your anxious thoughts, and how avoidance can backfire and make anxiety worse.
If you're ready to start observing your anxious feelings with distance and clarity - rather than getting tricked once again - this audiobook will show you how.

I bought it because it was wide widely advertised on Instagram. It is the biggest load of non-facts and very boring. Apart from this fact, there is really no advice on the worry subject the writer repeats himself continuously. Won't recommend at all!

The Worry Trick is the Worry Cure
I have read many books on anxiety, worry, CBT, REBT, and both the Worry Trick and the Worry Cure. In my view I have found that CBT has some flaws where a person disputes thoughts, but how do you dispute irrational thoughts if you are in a mental place of being irrational (worries and anxieties). I was please do hear the author state this very similar concern with CBT.
The information in this book about how worries start, how to "change your relationship" with worry, how to use counter intuitive approaches has been a big help to me. I would say out of decades of reading and working through various anxiety issues this book has had the most positive impact on my thinking and approach to worry. I have so many notes in this audible book that I wrote many down for a daily a guide and bought the printed book. This book is pure gold. I had it to two weeks and on my second listen.

Solid perspective on worry
This audio book covered, from a very grounded and practical perspective, some of the root causes and techniques to manage worry and anxiety. I enjoyed the practical advice and clear vision towards the thinking patterns that trigger and elevate anxious thinking.
Having read several books on the subject, I would say I found little 'new' concepts, however the author's plain English and practical approach was quite enlightening.

Finally a realistic book on worry and anxiety!
Excellently done! I was worried (of course) that the audio version would be dry but it's great! I'm listening and nodding in agreement with what he's saying. Even laughing at times. And I wondered why Cognitive Restructuring didn't always work for me. He's a realist and lays it out and explains why this can backfire for some people! And how to know! Wealth of information. Feeling understood for the first time in a long time while listening to him. I am understanding myself better. Knowledge is power. There is no cure-all but finally a therapist who gets real about those with serious anxiety/worry. Because we are different than those with only occasional worry. It's a whole different animal that's often misunderstood even by professionals. Excellent book, easy to listen to, highly recommend it to those that deal with worry or anxiety or over thinking. Or if you have a loved one that struggles with it. This will help you understand them much better and why they can't just stop worrying!

The number of times the word worry is said is counterproductive and distracting. Almost stressful! Got 15 minutes in and didn’t learn anything. Sorry, for us worriers, strange start to a self help book. Maybe also would have helped to define worry at the start.

Chinese Handcuffs
I'm 99% sure that this book is going to give me my life back.
The Worry Trick is essentially both a rundown as to why traditional CBT (especially administered by professionals) has the potential to harm more than it could ever help, and a guide containing a plethora of techniques and tricks to stunt the growth of an anxiety or depression problem in its tracks. The problem with CBT is the quicksand-like struggle; ACT (especially combined with the interesting 'Paradoxical Therapy') is THE ANSWER I've been looking for my entire life.
Some of the techniques described in The Worry Trick helped my GAD symptoms immediately. I paused the book numerous times to let out a gigantic sigh of relief, knowing that I didn't have to struggle endlessly with this problem; or maybe I still do, except I can learn to 'gel' or float with it and minimize the impact. I'm looking forward to implementing these techniques in social situations, and I'm even going to beg my psychologist to get on board with this with me.
The delivery of the audiobook couldn't be any better, either. The narration is perfect for driving certain points home, and the acting / singing stints were executed nicely.
I recommend this for anybody with anxiety issues. Do yourself a favor and give this a shot, especially if you're ready to stop struggling and start living your life again.

Too much talk, no helpful information.
Narrator is good but the book and information is not. I felt as if the author was trying to explain my situation to me as if I wasn’t already aware. Nothing is more annoying than someone else trying to explain to you about how you feel. There’s so much talk and zero information on how to help constant intrusive thoughts and worrying. I made it to the 9th chapter and gave up because I couldn’t take it anymore. It was so boring and without any helpful information. Do yourself a favor and listen to Pass Through Panic by Claire Weekes if you want real information that will help you.

the book provides good techniques to combat obsessive and persistent worrying using a counterintuitive approach. Like many I was struggling so much with fighting thoughts in my head and attempting to reassure myself, this ultimately did not serve me well and I felt a new approach was needed. Unhelpful. Actually made me worry more! The book provides an outline of various techniques to minimise worrying, but the author’s obvious total lack of personal experience in this area meant the book was written with a complete lack of empathy & understanding. nothing new
If it’s your first book about worrying it might be ok to read it. Unfortunately it just repeats well known information. I didn’t really get an answer what is the worry trick. After old good Dale Carnegie’s “How to stop worrying and start living” not really a hit.

Story
Are your thoughts holding you captive? I’ll never be good enough. Other people have better lives than I do. God couldn’t really love me. Jennie Allen knows what it’s like to swirl in a spiral of destructive thoughts, but she also knows we don’t have to stay stuck in toxic thinking patterns. As she discovered in her own life, God built a way for us to escape that downward spiral. Freedom comes when we refuse to be victims to our thoughts and realize we have already been equipped with power from God to fight and win the war for our minds.

But whether they are ultimately diagnosed with anxiety, disabling OCD, depression, bipolar disorder, or even substance abuse, the underlying problem is a "Too-Busy Brain".
