Publisher's summary

After discovering the Inquisitor’s plot within the Academy, Tolan is offered a chance to go with his father and learn from the Draasin Lord. Doing so not only means turning against the Academy and everything he has come to know, but means the Inquisitors will succeed in their plan.

When the Grand Master comes to him asking a dangerous favor, Tolan must make a choice that might bring him into direct contact with the Draasin Lord.

Everything he’s been taught about the elementals and the Draasin Lord is wrong.

If he can stop Aela and the Inquisitors, he might be able to save the Academy, but the Draasin Lord has something else in mind for him.

IMO MC HAS NOT SHOWN ANY GROWTH

I got through first three, but a common issue I had was there were paragraphs among paragraphs that just say same thing, almost like just fillers and its very frustrating , I did not finish this one. was too fed up with it. I'm, probably not the target audience so take this with grain of salt.

Good but extremely slow

I like the story and characters but the series has moved soooo slow so far. The amount the main characters have developed their abilities seems like barely enough for one book and I'm through 4. Hopefully it picks up to make the last few credits worth it

Repetition and going nowhere

I really want to like this series, but I cannot get through a fourth book of repeating the exact same things as the last three books… Tolen’s inner struggle about elementals and whether or not to release or support them. Story is not bad, it just doesn’t go anywhere for me.

inconsistencies

the gender of the wind master teacher changed from book 3 as male to female in book 4 i believe this could have been avoided if the author gave a first name to all the major story building characters

Good story but a lot of repetition

The narrator is good but would have helped having a second, female, narrator as well. Still, he does well as a solo narrator.

The story is good but the author repeats almost everything several times. I almost feel like this should have been only an hour or 2 long if you remove the repetition. That said, it is an interesting story and I am dealing with the writing issues to get to the end.

But what if

story spent more time with "but what if", "I don't know how", or " here are all the parts or possibilities on conjuring the spell. 10 hour story with maybe two hours of adventure.

Repetitive.

I enjoy the series overall but hearing the same thing over and over again is killing me. I want to continue to see what happens but I have to take a break from this lest I go mad. If I hear perhaps it's just his imagination or maybe he just imagined it followed by he didn't think so or another half dozen lines used way to often then I'll snap. Time to take a breather. I hope the author uses it less in the next installment but will wait to see after a palette cleanser.

Interesting Story Line

Not only is this an interesting story line (Though you do need to read the series from Volume one to follow it), it has enough twists and turns to sustain interest in wanting to read more. The narrator is excellent. I enjoyed his reading of the Chainbreaker series and was worried, when I recognised some of the ‘voices’, at the beginning, that I would get confused - or read motives into these characters based on my familiarity with the others - but that doesn’t happen. Looking forward to the next book.

The MC !!!

Tolan just seems too dumb for the MC he just seems to get dumber and dumber as the books go on, I keep finding myself wanting to skip a chapter to see if he makes the obvious choice.
