Publisher's summary

Can Eight handle his biggest challenge yet; civilization?

He’s carved a home out in the wilderness, and met its inhabitants, killing some and making friends with others. Things are looking downright cozy—in a bushcraft kind of way—but there’s a village to the east with tools, resources, and new magic to learn. That’s all incredibly tempting when living among the wild things.

Where there are people though, there are complications, including the murder-y kind.

Add a few ghosts, giant beasts, and a new god too, and...well...life’s hard for an old man trapped in a young boy’s body. And things are about to get much, much tougher. Still, all that wisdom and experience have to count for something, right?

Eight: The Way of the Hunter is part mystery, part ghost story, and all adventure. Follow Eight as he fights for his place in a new world using a System made of paths, soul marks, attributes, talents, and skills to explore it.

Unique take on progression fantasy

A fun take on a cultivation style litrpg. I enjoyed the unique perspective and much different cultural influences.

Great story interesting perspective

Original story many moral concepts embedded in story. Without giving away spoilers. A young boy as well as a wise man retell the importance of family in nurturing a youngster to gain wisdom in life

Fantastic!

Loved the story! Kept my attention the entire book, just like the first. Can’t wait for T he next in the series to be released. Love the adventure. I appreciate the lack of sex and cursing. I am going to encourage my teenagers to listen.

So good

Love the perspective and careful consideration of the main character and the general philosophy of empathy, but still showing the struggles of choosing that path. Eight is good while still having flaw. And while it’s still a LitRPG (numbers went up!) it’s not the focus of the story, it’s about people.

I want to like this

After finishing both books I'm still undecided about whether or not I like the series.   There are many things I quite like.  The world is interesting and some of the characters are very fun.   Both of these books are character-driven more so than plot-driven.  The main character has a strong set of moral values and by sticking to them he is rewarded.  In an adventure novel, this really isn't bad but in a character-driven story, it can become a little tedious.   He never has to sacrifice anything for his values.  By the end of this book there are some  suggestions that the story will become more  plot driven than character-driven. I'm not sure how that transition will look if  I'm right.  Having said that I have read both books. It's just not a solid recommendation yet.  If you were so so on the first book I'm not sure the second one will sway you one way or another.

Could be better

I understand what some of the reviews mean by slow, however the situation is different. In the first book he’d just arrived on the new world he needed to catch up fast… here he’s learning about the people and the world he now lives in. I’m enjoying the story and feel the author has a few surprises in store for his fans.

solid sequel

This book did a great job expanding on the first book. it didn't go in any crazy directions that would have changed the whole book into something it is not.

one thing that is noticeable is the amount of people that are okay with dealing with an 8 year old like they're an adult. bit it is explained that levels ate more important than age so it's not too big of a deal.
