Publisher's summary

If you've ever wanted to experience a massive boost in your language-learning efforts and see an improvement of 100%...200%...300% (or more) sooner than you ever imagined possible, then this audiobook may be the most important language learning audiobook you'll ever hear.

In The Ultimate Language Learning Secret, you'll discover:

  • How to escape from the prison of your mother tongue so that you can enjoy the benefits of fluency, including better understanding, communication and advanced experiences in travel for pleasure, business, and personal development
  • How to identify language-learning heroes who can literally transform your current lack of words into an abundance of fluency
  • The magic formula for developing discipline, ability, and self-control all at the same time so that you can sit and accomplish your language-learning goals quickly, easily and in ways that are effective, easy, and fun (This formula alone is worth double the price of this book.)

None of the language-learning techniques in this book require rocket surgery or brain science. There's no hype and no exaggerated claims. Frankly, if you can learn to flip a coin, you can learn to speak a language.

But there's really no time to lose. Every day that you're not using the Ultimate Language Learning Secret, you're missing out on one of life's most precious and easily accepted gifts: foreign language fluency.

Good Beginner Language Student Foundation

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. The book provides a good foundation for aspiring foreign language students.

What did you like best about this story?

Although it does not contain specific foreign language lessons, it does provide excellent information for developing a proper mindset and motivation for learning a foreign language. Anthony provides plenty of links and resources to some of the world's leading language teachers.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Ron Phillips?

I would have liked to have heard a narrator who could properly pronounce the handful of foreign language words and phrases. Although the content and Anthony's content is sound and is quite useful, this narrator's mis-pronunciations are distracting and detracts from the credibility of the content. The author should take some extra care in choosing knowledgeable and experienced narrators for each of his language books - an expert in the given language for each of his language books. I believe this would greatly add to the credibility of the content.

Any additional comments?

I would like to have seen a few more detailed examples of the Magnetic Memory Method in practice, and less space in the book dedicated to testimonials. Some testimonials are fine, the amount in this book was a distraction.

Just one long advertisement.

What would have made The Ultimate Language Learning Secret better?

Actually giving the secret

Would you ever listen to anything by Anthony Metivier again?

HECK NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I'm angry that I waste a book credit on this.

Any additional comments?

Don't waste your money or credits with this one. You can find the same crap on youtube, in fact you can go to youtube and find him saying the same stuff for free.

Probably not what you're looking for

I went through his whole presentation and became really irritated that I essentially spent a lot of time on an infomercial. So I looked around and got out of the this guys "flooded zone" and found that he isn't the only game in town. What you'll need is better than an introduction to a mix of the Loci, Major, Dominic, PAO, sound-alike, link, peg among other systems which are at the heart of what you're looking for. He touches on these but not enough other than to get you going and tempt you to pull out your credit card for his "Master" class. Sorry to be blunt, but this is what my irritation looks like.

Self-preening, self promotor.

A sales pitch through and through. DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK. Anthony Metivier is incapable of explaining his method unless money comes his way. His podcast is another version of this book. He even spoke at a TED Talk and did his same sales pitch. I was surprised that he would do the same to people who paid for his literature.
The Reader did a good job, but everything else was a pathetic attempt to upsell his own product.

It achieved its purpose... To inspire!

I write this review as someone who has studied several languages and who has built many memory palaces for my own learning in science, math, language, work, finance, etc. In other words, I am not coming to this book as someone new to the ideas or concepts. Much as a professional athlete loves to read books by other great athletes, anyone who loves the art of learning and especially learning languages, will appreciate the thought, organization, encouragement and nuggets of wisdom hidden throughout this book.

When an author really cares about his subject and his readers, it comes through. Metivier is one of these people. There is a way in which he words things that is always encouraging, always kind, and transparent.

As far as the criticism which I read in other reviews that there were many advertisements, that is not the case. There are two sections where he mentions that you can go deeper on topics that are not covered expressly in this book on his website. He spends more time pointing you to other people and resources than he does to his own materials.

In this day of content creation, that is more than forgivable.

I walked away inspired in several ways after reading/listening to this book:
1. I was inspired to really dig into Italian, which I have been somewhat hesitant to return to after several years.
2. I also found application to another area of my work life, where I trade futures for a living. There is a quote about failing in a public way that inspired me to face fears and really go for it this year.
3. I determined to implement fun and discipline into my learning projects with much greater zeal, starting immediately.

There are plenty of language books and memory books I have read which possessed more technical advice and materials, including several of Metivier's own works. This book clearly had a different purpose. It was to inspire. In achieving that aim, I give it 5 stars.
Good job Dr. Metivier,
Mike

Dr Anthony is always worth trusting

Funny and clear, Dr. Anthony always provides the highest level of information for both beginners and seasoned explorers of the mind. I highly recommend his books, videos, and online system of training.
